MOTORBIKE GREEN SLIP PRICES SLASHED

Minister for Finance and Services Greg Pearce today said that the average Compulsory Third Party (CTP) or Green Slip price for motorbikes will fall by up to 19 per cent on 1 January 2012 after the NSW Government conducted an audit of prices.

“This is a great win for motorcyclists who for too long have been paying Green Slip premiums out of step with the risks associated with riding a motorbike,” Mr Pearce said.

“The average CTP prices across the different classes of bikes will fall on January 1 by up to 19 per cent,” he said.

“The NSW Government has listened to the community and worked with insurers to reach an outcome that better reflects the activity.

“Of the five motorbike classes all but one will see substantial decreases. But good riders in the 1126 to 1325CC class can still save almost $350 simply by shopping around for the best price among the insurers.

AVERAGE BEST PRICE FOR MOTORBIKE CTP ACROSS THE SEVEN INSURERS
CLASS Jan-11 Jan-12 Change ($) Change (%)
225 CC $194 $157 -$37 -19.1%
226 to 725 CC $407 $336 -$71 -17.4%
726 to 1125 CC $597 $513 -$84 -14.1%
1126 to 1325 CC $773 $802 $29 3.8%
1326 CC + $687 $596 -$91 -13.2%

“I strongly urge all riders to use the CTP calculator on the MAA website at http://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au to get a better deal,” Mr Pearce said.

The Green Slip reduction for motorcyclists comes on top of news earlier in the week that the NSW Government had stopped insurers trying to increase the CTP prices for motorists by up to 15%, saving families up to $57 next year.

"The NSW Government is committed to ensuring that CTP prices are reasonable and any change in price is warranted.

“It is the reason we are conducting a review of CTP prices focusing on insurer profits and costs, transparency in legal costs for injured people, and Green Slip pricing.

“The outcomes of this review will provide the platform for an improved system that better meets the needs of motorists,“ Mr Pearce said.

I'm saving $150 this year on renewal in January. GIO is the most competitive for me (Alliance last year) - possibly because I use Insure My Ride for comprehensive which is all part of the same Suncorp Group.

My wonderful wife has suggested that the drop in premiums is a direct result of me not riding any more!

Finally finally finally, one of my main arguments for the incompetance/corruption of NSW has been reduced. I'm not prepared to say eliminated yet until I do a price comparison with the others states. What's the rego fee from the RTA these days?

Haven't done it in a few years but I would regularly have the things unregoed for a week or so because I didn't need them for that week and couldn't be bothered going down. They would just do the paper work as though everything was normal, but the rego date didn't change. So you might have to convince them that you want it to be registered using the date you go in there. Shouldn't be too much problem though. I think pink slips are valid for a couple of months aren't they?

I think it's 3 months, then you might need a blue slip. Anyway ,coming up with rego and green slip right on christmas is a huge hassle. If I can covince them to change my rego date, it might work in my favour.
