DEFECT NOTICE :(

Hi Green Blooders, red or blue or black aswell.....

Finally I have joined this forum. My first post unfortunatley will need some assistance from you guys.

Long story short: I got pulled in at a usual weekend RBT and the cop gave me a defect notice on my micron pipe.

I thought I just pick up a stock pipe from a wreckers as I bought the bike with just the micron.
I have called every wrecker in Sydney to see if they have one but I've had no luck and times run out I really need to clear the defect now or my rego will be cancelled.

What are my options?

This is what I have brainstormed....

1. Look for one on forums.

2. Look for a rider with the same model bike and rent his pipe for the defect inspection. Willing to pay $200 to borrow your exhaust for one day.

3. Find a nice mechanic to pay a blind eye??? for inspection??

I'm not sure....Any advise will be great guys....Really need some help with this one...The Bike is a 03'' ZX6RR or 636.

Thanks guys...

Are exhausts specific to bike models or can they be mixed and matched ?

The 03-04 have the same exhaust from memory.
2000-2002 are different, and so are from 05 onwards

So what was the defect for specifically. Was he claiming it was too loud?

My ZRX passed a blue slip with an afermarket pipe on it and it wasn't exactly quiet.

Why don't they go and hand out defects to the Harley knobs

go see some exhaust shops and have a removable baffle fitted to the end can outlet.
This will reduce the noise level. So if you're sent to the RTA pits or an MTA approved mech it should pass testing.

You'll need one from the 03/04 model 6R/RR as i don't think any other model fits...

I also don't think many KSRCian's have that model anymore either :?

Wow... Thank you for the quick responses....
The defect was for an after market exhaust. Had nothing to do with sound.....The bike in general isn't very loud unless im hauling..
Sill have no idea what to do about it :? :?

And yes its a full system which makes even more of a headache.....its also ironic that I've haven't actually seen another 03-04 636 or RR in a very long time....
Now Im paranoid for RBT's even when im not drunk :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers:

Thank you for your 2 cents everybody...

Im in vic, so different here at the moment...
But in NSW dont u have to have a noise db on it, ifs its not standard, remember reading something about it some time ago, and if its a after market one, it has to be fitted with a db sticker on it??? and has to meet that db reading?

How can they defect you for having an aftermarket exhaust... on the basis that its not stock.

Its a weeee bit ridiculous that cops cap slap a defect on with no knowledge of what they are doing, for something that is legit and you have to prove them wrong, not them prove themselves correct.

I don't believe its illegal to have an aftermarket exhaust and the law which required them to have an "approval" sticker was repealed long ago.
It is only illegal if it exceeds the legal noise limit and unless he believed it did, I can't see how you could be defected.
I have been booked for "undue noise, manner operated" though... which is how they get ya when they can't prove anything is illegal..

If it's as you say, not that loud, I would do nothing and just take it to the Inspection Station as is. Tell them you took off the realy loud exhaust that you got pinged for and put the Micron on to get the defect lifted ;)

Worth a try, nothing to lose if they still wont clear it, but who know's, whoever checks it may not really care, if its quiet enough??

I wasn't aware it was illegal to have an aftermarket exhaust fitted, in any state. Unless it's louder than you're letting on, or you haven't told the full story, fight it.They can't just fine you for replacing your exhaust system.
