Hi guys,

My cousin the goose ran into the back of a Tarago about year ago, they exchanged details etc and then he left. A year later the insurance company's lawyers (person who he hit) are demanding $10023 worth of damages in 14 days ! so i contacted them and managed to get a invoice of the work and also assessment. I'm trying to see if the damages in the photos are consistent with what was fixed, but i do not understand some of the work and parts on the invoice, e.g. on here it says fault scan & resets x2 for 160$ and $203.50 and also degas/regas x2 for $130 and $143 (WHY REGAS ETC when he hit the car at the back??) . Can someone help me read this thing? i still think 10K is not very reasonable. Also is it possible to negotiate a lower price with the insurance company? I really appreciate it if you can help us out!

What happened in the interim?

That's some fairly significant damage I reckon, insurance company will "usually" settle for less to make a quick and easy outcome, how much less is dependent on circumstances.

Suggest you get a solicitor asap. Gather your cousin wasn't insured.

guessing the regas is for the struts holding up the rear door

still, 10K sounds steep. Not sure if the whole thing is worth that.

10k? I would have guessed it was a third of that, half at worst.
