+4 ignition advance on 12R

Has anyone run this mod?

Just have a factory pro rotor sitting around and wondering if anyone has done it on their 12s.

I'm running a full system, and it's already been dyno tuned. I only use 98 octane fuel if I can help it.

No issues with detonation? Would it need another dyno?

your best bet would be to dyno it again as they would have leaned it right out to get the power and adding more timing in it could cause deternation.you still can try it but have some good octain booster handy the timing makes the bike snapier.

Thanks Maxumis.

She should be good with 98 (or 95) and an emergency bottle of octane booster in case I get caught out yeah? I will probably dyno it again anyway but might be later on. The reason I'm even doing it is as a sort of experiment to try to eliminate the 1.5-2k flatspot I've got on the new exhaust. The tuners tried but seem to have given up on it, they've just zero'd the 1.5-2k range on the map. The snappier response / extra ponies would be a nice bonus.

I know as far as flat spots go it's a good range to have it in (and tbh the mini power band is a load of fun) but I'm OCD about this sort of thing

Edit: I see what you mean about leaning it out. I did check the map though and it seemed a bit rich. Anyway regardless I'll give it a go and keep an ear out

if you want i can send you a map to see if it helps the flat spot and if it does just change the low settings from the map to the one you had made.

Easy change to make I will try what you suggested and take her for a spin tomorrow. The advance is a 10 minute job and a 10 minute job to reverse so I will do the mapping first see how she goes then try the advance. I have heard mixed reviews re the advance some say it improves it some say it makes it run like crap. I suspect it's related to fuel quality somehow though.

you might not want to throw as much fuel in down low as i did just start at five and adjust accordingly.the short magaphone muffler leans the bike out quite a bit and i think your system has long secondries but im not shore.

Mate - I fitted a modified exhaust system to my 12 a few years ago, it has BMC filters and back then a Yoshi RS3 can. The PCIII fitted was mapped to suit this whole system - and it works perfectly...........except for the 1.5k flatspot.

This is almost impossible to dial out on these bikes from what I have been told, the go is to drop 1 tooth on the front sprocket - this helps you get off the line quicker and past that flat-spot.

A couple of different dyno operators have had the MFP12 on their dynos, and both have said that they could not map the bike any better than the current map. So I am not sure if re-mapping will sort this out for you ?

But I would be really interested in the 4deg advancer. If this does give you snappier acceleration without any other issues - I would be looking to do the same mod to my 12.

I've actually been toying with the idea of 17/47, particularly after seeing Hobster's findings (from the Kawasaki world forum).

I'm surprised by just how planted this bike is. I heard the gearing would make it wheelie prone but I don't think I believe it will be as bad as people say.

In any case I'll certainly report my findings post advance and I may even get her back on for a HP run (same dyno) just to satisfy my curiosity.

dropping 1 tooth at the front doesn't turn it into a wheelie monster - but adding a few to the back might

I will look forward to any updates from you about the advancer - it is something I have thought about for ages, but never really done anything with.....

Well when nice and hot the flat spot disappears.

Which brings me to the reason she was nice and hot.

The guys at motorcycle weaponry, who fitted the system, seemed to forget to pop the oil cooler hose back into the mounting bracket. Was sitting flush with the headers. Dirty great hole in it now. :x There was also a crack in one of the ram air covers as if they'd tried to rip the LHS fairing off the bike without undoing the rivet screw holding it on! WTF! Whilst I'm very happy with the tune and suspension job, both of these issues seem pretty amateurish to me and certainly not something I would have done had I done the work myself. I expected better.

Part ordered not expensive but if the part is on backorder I'll do my nana

I did take the engine cover off to do the rotor but I don't have the rotor holder tool and without having an impact wrench it was too torqued. Can't be arsed to fork out hard-earned for a tool I'll use once, and it's a 5 minute job so I'll just pop in at AllFixed one day I think (after the replacement hose comes grrrr)

take it back and show them! that would piss me right off. if you need to borrow an impact wrench just let us no!

im running +4 and re did the tps makes it alot nicer and snappier but i always run 98 or 100 fuel anyway from places ive always found to have good quality fuel
looking at dropping a tooth on the front when its due to for a change and see how that goes
but yes was looking at that sprocket setup on kawasaki world and am considering it

im very happy with the improvements achieved from +4 and tps well worth the little price and you can do it yourself

i have just had a chat to Brock from brocks performance and he advises not to run that sort of timing all the way through the bike(can cause engine failures).he does say the 12's like timing but he advises from 80% up in the throttle and 7up in the rpm range

interesting... If anyone is an authority on the matter it'd be Brock. I spose he must do it via Ignition mod then. I don't suppose you discussed fueling as well?

I may end up just getting an ignition module - I keep looking at that rev extend feature wishing I had it 8) . I've got the sprockets etc to keep me busy in the meantime.
