Hey all,

My 05 ZX6 will soon be due for its 24,000 km service. It had its last service done at 18,0000 km with engine oil replacement and filter change. It cost him around $300 (i have the receipt)

Question - Can anyone recommend a good service centre (and reasonable?) for the bike? Secondly, is this a major or minor service? How much can I expect to pay for this service?

Any suggestions welcome. :)

Vivek

I only know places in the eastern suburbs, which are a bit far for you.
Heard good things about high octane in thomastown but wrong side of town for me.
also everything two wheels in fitzroy has a good rep.
Think 24000k is a major service with valves etc.

Kon and John will set you straight.

They say to check valve shim clearances at 24k kms but most times they dont need it. They will explain this too you. He was a Kawasaki mechanic.

No idea on price.

I went & had valve clearances & vacuum synchronisation done the other week at Evolution, Cost me about $200 for that, although the valve clearnaces were right & no shims had to be changed. I done the rest of the major service myself to save money. An apporximate price i got for the major service was $650.

It is a major service at 24,000km on an 03 model, do you have your owners manual? that should have a list of what's required at 24,000km. According to my manual oil gets changed & oil filter replaced at 12,000km, 24,000km, & 36,000km. so if your oil & oil filter was changed at 18,000km you may not need to change it.

Thanks mate. I called hi octane, but the guy (think it was John who answered) was busy. He took my details and said he'll call back. Will wait and see.

No worries at all.

If you do not have an owners manual for your ZX6R, you can download one here:

I do have both, the service book and owners manual. The previous owner got it serviced regularly and gave me all receipts and records when he sold it to me.

Going to also get a quote from everything two wheels in fitzroy. The previous owner got it serviced all the time.

One of few bike shops I have had a bad experience with personally and it only takes one for me to not go back there. Things may well have changed or I just got unlucky and had a careless apprentice. Had the bike done there previously with no drama but as stated, only takes one bad experience and I don't try again.
