Put the commodore in for a service today. They want $500 for replacing the engine mounts. Apparently not all that far from going through the sump at present. Don't suppose anyone has a hoist and the know how for something slightly less than 500 smackos?

Engine mounts are normally a very low tech job.

Try to get hold of a service manual and read up on what is involved and/or get another quote.

Engine mounts. Is it not possible to undo all the nuts, use a strategically placed hydraulic jack and do them one at a time? I've done it on a fwd car, but not sure about a rwd. I imagine the gearbox would have to be removed, still a slight pain in the arse, but i imagine still viable to do.

Yer I have done them with the gearbox still in using a car jack, it's a bit tricky but we got it done.
Also if u have a nice beam in your garage use that with a few pulleys and there's your engine hoist.

From memory the drivers side is a pain in the ass with the steering stuff in the way, grab some cheap spanners as I think I had to bend one a bit to make it easier.

Yeah its relatively easy job with a hydraulic jack . Reccomend a Saturday afternoon and you should be ableto get it done.

Just remember to put a block of wood between the underside of the engine and the jack to avoid an inconvenient loss of oil.

what model comodore i can give you a hand for a slab, i have a hoist you just buy the mounts.

its easy peasy on a Commonwhore

up on stands /ramps at the front..use a jack to just lift a front corner of the sump (protect with wood block)
undo the bolts from the frame ..and the engine on that side, remove old and sling the newie in
should take maybe 10 mins a side ..if you are slow

Sounds like a goer! It's a 2000. I have no idea what I'm doing (hell I still take 5 goes to get the damn chain on straight). But I have skinny fingers, so that should help right ? Weekends are booked up for the next little while but after I get the car back from the rest of its service and get the parts will give you a buzz.

have you ever done it??you have to unbolt the A/C pump+the left hand engine mount bracket off the block to get them out and to undo it from the engine mount bracket.its not as ezey as you think if the car has had a previese accident and not repaired proplerly it can be a pain in the arse ! go for the case of piss ;)3.8L

A slab sounds a good investment.
