Fella 'doesn't feel safe'... Understandable, buts still... To actually go through with the arrest is just plain 'dick bigger than head' syndrome. Put her in cuffs, finish the traffic stop, and then give her a warning. She's a douche, but so is he.

She deserved everything she got. So he manipulated a law by saying he felt unsafe to get her to move away. Police work is hard enough to do without idiots getting in the way and he warned her plenty of times but she was too stupid to comply.

Why is it everyone thinks it's ok to argue with police these days? If she had gone back into the house like he asked the first time, nothing would have happened to her.

No problem with him pissing her off, but to go through with the arrest is just petty. And obeying random commands is not something ill do for anyone including a cop. In this instance i would have backed off, but not gone inside and not stopped filming.

I reckon they are both idiots, her and the copper, but IMHO this forum response sums up the situation.

"The officer was clearly an idiot!
She did NOT bait him whatsoever, but simply asserted her right to be standing where she was. He should have ignored her and continued going about the business in which he was doing. What next? She film from inside her home and he tells her to stop? I understand how hard it is to be a police officer and the stress and challenges they face. However, one MUST have a clear and level head and not allow things to escalate the way they did.
My opinion? This wasn't about this woman breaking any law. It was about this one officers arrogance of not having his request honored, and how DARE she do that! Notice that the other officers did not get involved in this. His "safety concern", as he kept saying was a bunch of garbage. ALL of the officers would have reacted if there was truly a concern in regards to their safety. This was purely the arrogance of this officer and the power of his badge"

A couple of the other forum responses.

"The police do not consider themselves public servants. They see their job as controlling the rest of us regardless of our Constitutional rights. I hope this woman counter sues for violation of her civil rights. She was on her own property not obstructing the officer. Only his irrational fear was at play. The police have just become tax payer funded gangs. Never call a cop unless you want to invite an armed person with a history of violence into the situation and pray they don't think you need to be arrested and or shot"

"There's a reason that these guys are cops. And when confronted with an unknown situation they demonstrated why they are cops. No the brightest bulbs on the tree"

There is a line he says that indicates there is more to the situation than what is shown in the footage. The cop says "with what you said to us before you started filming, I don't feel safe with you standing there". Now, I know what people with no respect for authority are like; and all it takes is one or two inflammatory comments from these sorts of irresponsible people to set an offender off and the cops end up with a shit-fight on their hands. Filming some idiot getting arrested could be the catalyst for a ‘what to be famous gangsta’ to go off and make a scene or hurt a cop for a bit of street cred. If you were the cop and had seen this sort of reaction happen before, wouldn’t you want the bystanders to stop filming and move away?

The problem is, everyone who is bagging his actions is looking at it from their own selfish point of view. It's all about "my rights" and "he can't tell me what to do" and "how dare he tell me to move away" kind of crap. Look at it from a police perspective for a change. They are doing a job where in a split second it can get out of hand and you can be hurt or killed. In order to keep themselves safe, they need TOTAL control of the situation AND surrounding area so rather than whinging about our rights to interfere with them doing that job, we should be encouraging more people to act responsibly and give them the space and support they need to do the job effectively. If they ask you to move away, chances are it is because you are interfering or getting in the way, so FFS stop questioning the request and just move away.

Granted you will get the occasional knob that lets the power get to their head as you do in every job, but that doesn't make it ok to argue with every cop just because you feel like you should be allowed to do whatever you want.

I forgot to add. The police have become more aggressive and controlling in the way they deal with the public for one simple reason. We, as a society, have created it thanks to the constant arguing and refusal police face day in day out to get people to follow their directives. If people question things when it is put to them politely and only respond when it is forced upon them, would you keep being polite or would you skip the argumentative phase and cut straight to the part where people listen and comply?

If you are someone who won't obey commands that you feel are unnecessary, then you are contributing to oppressive nature police are being forced to adopt.

+1 mate...It is difficult to know the full story in this case and until the full details are known we are all just guessing.

I know there are some police that are there because they like the control they can have over us. I also think there are many there that are there for honorable reasons and the lack of respect and the ever increasing violence in the community makes their job harder. Sort of merry go round really.

And I say that some police bring it on themselves for being arrogant egotistical arseholes.

I am more likely to comply with anyones request ( cop or not) if it is put nicely. Be a prick about it and I'll dig my heels in. Especially when I know I have the grounds to argue with a cop because they can't pin me for anything.

Too many cases you listen to these fuckheads ( not all are such) be condescending and rude but you have to take it because they have a ticket waiting for you. Hwp esp because they think they saved your life as you were doing 75 in a 70 zone that just dropped from 100.

I am all for protecting the public and People being polite to cops when they are nice back, but we all have to deal with dickheads and be nice in our given professions so why should the cops be any different.

I should say I haven't seen the link above just commenting in general bases on opinions above.

It's a chicken and egg thing, I think.
Society vs Police - Society have lost faith in police due to a highly publicised minority. Police have lost faith/respect for the public due to the scummy minority they deal with.
Who knows what came first? Maybe they both happened at the same time. No 'side' is more correct than the other. It's a shame it even comes down to thinking about it as 'sides'. And unfortunately, due to the power inbalance, it feeds on itself :(

I don't include HWP in with general policing as they have become more of a tax collection agency for the government these days and are brainwashed into the belief they are doing good by looking for things to charge people with rather than using discression and applying common sense when dealing with the public. Funnily enough, the arrogant ones tend to be drawn to this unit of policing. But that is another argument all together. ;)
