This damn volcano doing it's thing over there in Chile.....I'm due to fly to Sydney on Thursday morning for the day for business.....I don't like my chances now.....

Unfortunately no one has any idea. I want to know why the airlines have to make their own decision when we have a the federal civil aviation safety board who can't advise on this??? It appears that they only show up when a plane crashes

It's only an advisory department. Just in case something happens, they can say "not our fault".....

But they can ground planes that don't meet a maintenance schedule or vice versa give them the authority to fly. Makes it hard to do business when you book a flight yesterday afternoon for a flight this morning to be told 4 hours later sorry can't fly but you can on Thursday morning so long as the smoke has cleared.

Happy they are doing it for safety purposes but lack of clarity makes it hard

You'll be right by Thursday, it'll be back around the other side of the southern hemisphere by then, although the delays from today and tomorrow will take some catching up.

My boss saw it flying from Perth to Adelaide last week. They had to divert up around Ayers Rock to go around it but you could see it at 9000 m out of the right side of the plane. He said it was just like a big brown dirty cloud, certainly wouldn't want to be flying through it.

One things for sure I'd much rather be on the airline that says no we won't fly then the one that say's " Nah we'll take a punt'

+1...I'm with you Glen. Au has a great record for not crashing and I for one would like them to keep it that way.

I watch he show on the box about plane crashes and it is amazing how simple things overlooked can kill hundreds and leave many more without their loved ones.

The only known plane to nearly crash was a BA flight over 20 years ago that flew over the top of a volcano and straight through the ash cloud, its engines restarted so where is the drama?

Stuff it, I'm not going to let these natural terrorists win......I'm going damn it!

I got stuck in Christchurch last week for 2 days 'cos Jetstar wouldn't fly, ended up changing to Emirates and got back in time for my weekend ride

As I figured, my business flight to Sydney this morning was cancelled......

It's an omen..... Ride time!
