Helmet and Tyre replacement
Can't seem to get a consistent answer to the following two questions. Help req'd please.
1. I've got an RF700 Shoei helmet I bought new in 1997. Haven't used it for 6 years. It's never been damaged or dropped. Should I replace it?
2. Tyres on the bike (Metzelers) have f....all kays on them but also haven't been used for 6 years. BTW, the tyres have been shielded from sunlight for the entire time. They don't seem to be cracked at all and generally look ok. Should I replace them?
Cheers

Re: Helmet and Tyre replacement
I'd replace them all.
The helmet only has a shelf life of 5 years. The tires might be ok but you won't know for sure till it's too late... do you really wanna take that chance for a few hundred $?

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Helmet and Tyre replacement
Your helmet probably still feels OK but it's well past it. Even if It's never been worn 5 yrs just about see's them out. Your head is pretty important so $500 -$800 for a new lid is a no brainer.
Tyres might be OK but again I wouldn't risk it, besides technology has come so far in the last 5 yrs you'll get something that sticks like shit and lasts longer.
Freshen everything up and get back into it.

Re: Helmet and Tyre replacement
Thanks gents. You're right, not worth taking a punt, especially since I haven't ridden for 6 years. Could be very messy. Blue slip here we come.
Cheers.
