What a great day for a spin, left Wonthaggi with 8 other riders from work and and went via Korrumburra, leongatha for a pit stop at Dumbalk.Shortly after leaving Dumbalk I was sitting behind my mate on his Rocket 111 went a transit van pulling a trailer approached on a side road on the left he appeared to stop then pulled out in front of us with my mate no more than 100 metres away doing 120 K's , unbelievable!!!! I saw smoke streaming off his back wheel then the rear began to swerve to
the left, he let go the brake and somehow manhandled the rocket around the front of him. I went other way, into the intersection and around behind him under heavy front brakes, luckily I had more time I dont think I could have avoided him had I been in the lead. The six other bikes watched the whole episode including his son.
On to Mirboo Nth then down to Trafalgar, a quick blast up the freeway to Moe then through Tyers up to Rawson. It was on the road out to the Thompson dam that 1 of our crew ran wide on a right hander and lost her on the grass verge, luckily no one was hurt and he could limp the bike home escorted by his brother. Down to Moe through Erica for some lunch and coffee , then into it again and up through Willow Grove to Nojee, down towards Yarra Junction then across to the Gembrook Launching Place road through Pakenham and then down the Bass Hwy to the Island and home. I later heard of a bike fatality on the gembrook Rd
My thoughts for the riders family and friends.I don't do alot of group rides, I thoughly enjoyed the day, but found group riding needs speical care. That said what a great sunday.
