One of the other Marshalls on the Yarra Ranges training ride on Sunday had his camera on and filmed the plod
on one of the corners. Neil Mitchell has picked up on it. The goose is the lady copper with the radar gun
up against the cliff scaring the bejezus out of innocent riders, especially those coming down hill.
There are more geese you can't see on the corner behind the guys leg.

What is the speed limit? There are policies but not actual rules that are meant to be followed when doing road side operations in NSW, so assume similar would be in operation in VIC. No requirements for vest and the like when operating in daylight hours. The police union did strike a deal that they could not pull over drivers in 80km+ zones they have to "chase" them for safety reasons.
Not the smartest place to stand if you ask me, but the last time I checked police aren't putting up neon lights to let you know where they are. If you get frigtened by a copper standing on the side of the road you probably get object fixation and have bigger issues. Personally I have bigger issues with Skippy sitting on the side, at least I know the copper isn't going to jump out in front of me, who knows what Skippy will do.

The first thing i can see a problem with is the distinct lack of a highvis vest as Mark said. I'm sure there's a crapload of other violations as well. Bugger it, send it to workcover, if they are going to play, they need to play within the rules.

There is no requirement for the person in that photo to wear a hi-vis vest, unless they are stepping onto the road to stop a vehicle.
Having said that, I sure as fuck wouldn't stand there!

More to the point, where the hell do you go if something does go wrong?

This goes against the grain, but I have no issue with them standing there if they deem it 'safe' to do so. I see it as no different or even less difficult than catching a cyclist on the same corner.
As for policing speed limits, are there not rules that state accurate reedings can not be taken on corners?
