Cheap PVR

I have a PVR but it's not HD - only SD and I have another old TV with a HD STB.
The HD STB has a USB connection so I went out and bought a 1TB external HDD and hookec it up to the STB and now have a cheap HD recorder - STB $45 + HDD $80 = $125.
The recording function is pretty basic but WTF for the odd program on OneHD that I want to record it's fine...and I can use the HDD with the laptop as well.

I have a PVR (Personal Video Recorder - modern video recorder using digital technology) but it's not HD (High Definition) - only Standard Definition and I have another old TV (television) with a HD (see above) STB (set top box - converts digital signal for viewing on older analogue TVs.
The HD STB has a USB ( can't remember what this stands for after a signficant number of bunday and bare - the bundy is for me and the bear is 4 the diet) connection so I went out and bought a 1TB (f'huge) external HDD (hard Disk Drive)and hookec it up to the STB and now have a cheap HD recorder - STB $45 + HDD $80 = $125.

I don't even bother recording tv anymore, broadband, external harddrives and fantastic peices of kit called WD TV Live HD pretty much removed any requirement for watching shows when the networks decide to let us watch them.

I put a
mythtv box together about 5 years ago and it's currently running on an early Dual Core, has 1.5tb of space and 3 internal and 6 usb / external recorders, has a remote control. The wife cottoned onto how to use it pretty quickly and now i cannot imagine not having it as it can schedule damnwell everything i want up to a week in advance.
Mind you setting it up took a freaking long time and not something you'd undertake unless you've either got a lot of limux experience or are willing to give it a good try & willing to burn up a lot of hours. The outcome & convenience was worth it. though.
