Parking etiquette - North Sydney
Parking etiquette - North Sydney
I am at a point where I'm not sure of the proper motorcycle parking etiquette. I am a regular "parker" in North Sydney (everyday) and although the council does provide a number of free designated spots, the popularity of the two wheeled game is such that there is never enough.
Now I park in an allocated area which will take 4 full sized bikes - and would take 5 if people were smart about it. The spot has a mail zone on one end and a metered timed car park spot on the other.
Recently got pinged $86 because I had one wheel in the mail zone. Not because I had to have it there (I was the first one in the spot) but because I try and make enough room for everyone.
I get there today and the usual problem occurs - some prick on a scooter (a regular) has parked a lazy 30cm inside the motorcycle zone at one end, a 125cc piece of shit parks so that he takes up two spots and the third guy parks like a normal person. I slot my bike on the end - albeit a little close to the third bike but not wanting to draw the wrath of the parking officer. Never like to get too close as it pisses me off when people do it to me.
Get back to my bike tonight and my left mirror is twisted out of position and has been unscrewed. Okay - accept that I was a little close and not particularly dirty but:
- is it ever okay to touch someone's bike to reposition it? (I would never consider it)
- why do fellow bikers not have the sense to park properly
- is there a way to assist others to be more parking friendly?

Its never ok to touch someones bike unless the owner asks you to..
They are not bikers rather commuters and dont give a rats.
Nope.
oh and scootrer riders are another breed on their own.
Find a couple of sports bikes or cruisers to park in between, they usually have respect.

Agreed with jonno find some a space that don't have the showponies (you can usually pick em) or scooters and park there usually they are the bikes that park straight and leave enough space between the bikes to be consider other riders and don't mess with other peoples property

If they are regulars then write a nice note asking that you all try n do the best thing for each other ........ you have nothing to lose if you put a note on your bike as well, then they will have no idea as to the origin.

I'd get there super early one day and park so it takes up 2 spots or more. It should get your point across

Re: Parking etiquette - North Sydney
Ugh, Sydney cbd parking undoes the enjoyment and perks that bike commuting brings. Personally i'd talk to a local parking venue to see if they offer a highly discounted rate, I know the parking in Jamison Street used to be dirt cheap for motorbikes, though you do/did have to fight with commuters to get a decent spot.
Although it's rude to move someones bike, it's ruder to do a shit park job in the first place, i.e. mr scooter mentioned by Matt. I'd leave a note on every bike including yours, good idea actually.

Nobody should touch your bike, but they always will.
I never had to worry about street parking, but it seemed annoying in North Sydney for those who did.

If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.
