Small vent
So i had a bike for just over 3 years and last week i was been chased up by the blues for some details.

after falling of the bike at xmas i put a claim in for a payout.

wondering why its taking over 3 months to hear from them.

the blues are rolling up saying that my bike was stolen some time ago ,haahah

im like i had this bike for 3 years and all and after having a blueslip and 2 years of a pink been done ,been pulled over a number of times on this bike without a problem ,

but now i have a stolen bike from townsville which is where i bought this bike from.

and the details i have from this guy i bought it of doesnt exist.

i have bank account details from where i sent the money to was closed some time ago.

is it normal for the blues to take three years to chase me up for this bike, and how was i able to pass a blue slip and rego this bike with no problems.

well it explains why i havnt gotten a payout as yet guess the new bike just has to wait some time longer

now im left wondering what chargers im going to have to deal with now

That sucks; extra charges probably depends on whether they look at your avatar...

If the RTA changed the rego, insurance company insured it and you have passed the pink slip several times I would think you have a strong case

completly agree, once they punch the details into the computer,if its stolen it should have come up straight away.I too think you have a strong case and someone in the system will get a good ass kicking for letting this happen.Good luck and keep us informed.

Oh crap dude! Was wondering how you were going.

I'm with Russ on this one - you've changed the rego over and had it insured so you should have a strong case.

Yeah you should have enough evidence to represent and hopefully win. Well done Australian police force you can fine people for 1km/h over the speed limit, but 3 years to chase up a stolen bike ?

Look on the bright side ,most blokes with stolen vechicles or bikes dont get to register and insure them for three years ,plus get to ride them around ,they usually get locked up first.
ps Im not calling you a theive

You shouldn't be charged with receiving stolen property because you can prove (presumably) that you purchased the bike in good faith, but I don't think you'll have any comeback for the money you spent purchasing it except against the thief who sold it to you. Did you get a REVS certificate when you purchased the bike?

The stolen vehicle database seems to be a bit of a joke, and often a check in NSW only checks to see if it's been reported stolen in NSW, not nation-wide.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I suspect you'll be out of pocket the cost of the bike and left with nothing. If it was insured by the original owner, you might be lucky enough that they offer it to you at a reasonable price.

Did you do a vehicle check when you purchased it? If not, you have probably done your dough.

I hate to say it but if it was stolen I think you've lost your bike and the dough you paid unless you can recover it from the bloke that sold it to you (highly unlikely).

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Revs checks and RTA checks are absolutely critical to protect yourself.

I had a mate who had the reverse happen. His bike got pinched and turned up a few years later after having been sold a few times (he walked into a bike shop and it was in there for a service). He got the bike back and gave it to the insurance company for salvage (he'd been paid out and got his excess back) and the guy who had bought it got nothing.
