MOTORISTS have always been kept in the dark about the leeway given to drivers caught speeding, but a leaked cabinet document reveals the secret 3km/h tolerance that has been given to speeding drivers will be axed.

Un bloody believable  can radars be trusted with zero tolerance?, I can see the courts backing up with cases of unjust speeding fines.

It'll be interesting when the allowable tolerance for a speed measuring device ie Your Speedo is 10%. I can see some lawyers making some money.

Just drive at 10km/h under the speed limit.

LOL funny man.
Sad thing (in my opinion) is that on my freeway run every day many people do.
Had 2 cops on the F3 this morning, not far apart, doing bang on the speed limit.
I was too - and we were 'flying' past quite a few.

The fear factor causes accidents too - that's what I'm worried about.
Be interesting to see how many HWP actually enforce it

PS: great thing to be 'leaking' just before the state election tomorrow

Every speedo from 2006 onwards had to be a max tolerance of 10% above and zero below. In any of these cars/bikes there is no defence on zero tolerance as in order to speed the reading will be over.

In older vehicles where the speedo accuracy is +/- 10% there is a case.

Problem is that this will cause more accidents as people will be spending more time looking at their speedo than the actual road.
double that effect during public holidays, basically you will have a road full of paranoid drivers, driving way too slow and pissing people off who want to do the speed limit.

I normally drive well under the speed limit, that way it's other people getting annoyed with me and not me getting annoyed with other people. :)

I actually cannot understand this fascination we have with driving at the speed limit. They make the limit 60, why do people feel the need to have to sit on 60? Do people plan every trip they take with such precision that they have to sit exactly on the speed limit to make it to their life threatening appointment on time?

It's common bloody courtesy!

Who are you to deny anyone the right to drive at the speed limit? Which would be the case unless you were in the left hand lane of a dual carriage way...

I will generally go with the flow of traffic as it fluctuates above & below the limit ....... out in the stix or in the twisties its a whole different ball game, I am not scared to admit what most of us do anyway but I ride to the conditions & well within personal limits, I don't have anything to prove...... unlike some
