ZX6 Motor - the saga continues........

Well most of the regulars here would be aware that we got a motor for Chris's bike out of the US for $1400 shipped, got it here, paid $700 in customs, quarantine etc.
Got it delivered to Glenn at Allfixed, dropped the bike around. Glenn's spent the best part of yesterday and today and the end result...........

The motor is rooted. The thieving bastard wrecker in the US has removed the starter and the starter drive gear and in doing so broke a chunk out of the engine case thus meaning we can't put a starter in it. Not great but no biggy, it's a track bike so we can clutch it. Numerous messages to seller has him giving me numerous versions of how this came about.

Today Glenn finishes it off, goes to start it and.................no oil pressure. Has a look and guess what, the oil pump drive shaft and the drive gear have been removed. It's also pretty evident that the motor has been apart and reassembled.

Now I'm lodging disputes with Ebay because the item wasn't as described ie it's not running.

In the meantime Glenn transplants our oil pump and drive shaft and gear into the new motor. Starts it up and...............still no oil pressure and the engine sounds horrible. Verdict..................the engine, described by the scamming arsehole in the US as Excellent running condition is rooted.

The upshot. I've just toasted $2,100 plus labour for a paperweight in the shape of a ZX6 engine. The best I can hope for now is the original cost plus freight ie $1,400 back from Ebay

Hats off again though to Glenn at Allfixed who has done an awesome job through the whole process. I actually feel sorry for him when he has to ring me up and constantly give me bad news.

I think we might be parting out a ZX6 tracky and two half munted engines soon.

Luckily I haven't had to use that service yet.

Hope Ebay comes to the party for you. They should cover all your losses as they make a motsa out of their cut of everything.

Argh Spewin :x Maybe worth giving customs a call and letting them know they charged u duty on an incomplete blown motor. Not sure you'll get anywhere with the quaratine fee but worth a try at least :(

That sux. What year ZX6 is it? I have some parts of a 2000 ZX6 motor in the shed (Complete motor less gearbox - but all cases & covers). Not idea of the condition though, as it was initially purchesed for a doner gear box!

That really sucks ass!

I don't want to sound like the grim reaper, the way paypal fixes things through fleabay via "not as described item that is not working" is that they make you ship the item back to the seller with verified tracking; in order to be entitled to the paypal protection refund. Unfortunately you don't get reimbursed for the return shipping and or customs duties, which is bullshit!

I got done with a counterfeit item once via fleabay and in order to get the paypal refund, I had to get it verified by an independent party (ie a technician) to prove it was counterfeit . Paypal accepted this gave me refund and instructed me to destroy the item; so no return shipping fee!

So you may want to try the "counterfeit option" in your paypal dispute resolution; that way no return shipping/custom duties.

Best of luck with your dispute.

That sucks, what about taking it apart and figuring out where the problem lies, i.e. is it the bearings, bores, valves, gears shot to shit or crank, etc. Maybe there is sufficient good bits in the two wonky motors to make one acceptable one? Just a thought.

That sucks though, hope that it's a positive outcome for you guys.
