Hi All, I got a puncture last night near the outter edge of the rear tyre, anyway my brother inlaw came to my aid and stuck a rubber plug in pumped it back up no probs.Is it safe to ride on or is this just a temp fix to get you home? Because I really want to go on my first ksrc ride to broke on sunday that the hoff has organised and am not sure if i'll have a new one fitted by sunday.

I rode another 2000km on a plug, just check your pressure once a day they tend to leak a little with the tyre flexing

I did heaps of k's on PC's Z1000 with a plug in the rear tyre - as long as the install is good, they last for ages.

Mate, on my Z1000 I've had aleast 3 plugs.. one in each of my back tyres i've had on it.

Usually within the first couple of thou I manage to pick one up. I usually get about 12k out of a back roadsmart, plug and all. Just keep an eye on the pressure in it as others have said, leaking can occur a little more frequently.

Thanks for all the info everyone, I was going to get a new power pure fitted on teusday while getting it's 6000k service done but now i think i'll save the $300 and get a proper plug put in. Again thanks for the info.

The danger of riding on a plug is high speed and the resultant tire temps that go with it. If the leak is in the tread where the tire does not flex much maybe. As for me I would rather go for a new tire than take the chance of a failure at high speeds. To each his own, Just don't become a statistic. Cheers.

Ok for commuting maybe, might get away with it but it weights heavy in your mind like the what if kind of thoughts.

Years ago I took my ZZR1100 to my secret spot for high speed testing. Usually it could get to 275km/h indicated. One particular day it would only go to 240. As I slowed down it wobbled in the back a little. I had a dead flat back tyre and nail in it. That's the top speed of a ZZR with a flat....

Yeah that was my main worry, what if it let go while crankin hard on a good bend ?

What sorta plug you talkin bout ? Got a pic...

There are 2 main types, temp and permanent..

It's only a temp one, I was throwing up wether to get a permanent one if enough people said they were fine or just be safe and get a new tyre.

Ive ridden on a permanent one for 5,000+ ks, they are fine for road use, put the temp ones are designed to get you home..but i have seen these also ride big distances..but its not reccomended..

Have you monitered the tyre pressue ? And has it dropped any psi in recent days?
