Best way of sending money to the US from Australia?

Hi all,

I need to send my sister in San Diego some money for a new DSLR.

I was thinking Paypal but she is telling me you can only withdraw $500/month and as she wants to pay her credit card off before she's charged interest this may not be the right method.

Seeing I work for a Bank I was thinking International Money Transfer through my internet banking. From what I am reading this seems to be the money equivalent of a SMS, as far as I can tell you send the money and hope like hell you have the right Routing Number and Account Number otherwise you're screwed. This costs $22, even though I'm staff.

I'm thinking possibly an International Money Order made out to her in $USD and sent registered-post over via snail mail. It may take a week or so but at least she should get it.

I've discounted using Western Union as I've heard they are shonky.

Any other ideas?

thks, Mick 8)

I still thought a bank transfer would be best. If you get the account numbers and everything right It should be fine.

maybe this can be an option ??

..bank transfer Mick
its tracable if there is a hassle
and send her $USD not $AUD...its easier for you to convert than her
talk to yr Intl guys before you do..they are pretty helpful

stay away from Western Union...no good news there new_argue.gif

A lot of Yank sites won't accept AU Visa or AU-based Paypal.

I know someone who sends money overseas, and they use telegraphic transfers via their bank.

CBA Netbank International Money Transfers work well and are easily traceable should something go wrong, instantaneous but do charge around $22 tfr fee, you need their BSB Account Number Full Bank Details and Internation Bank Code but if you have the fulld etails it does have a look up for the Intl Bank Code

I can second that...we have quite a few transactions between USA & China & if they don't take AMEX we use the CBA IMT never had a problem.

Wonder if we will get a reduction in our bank fees for recommending a CBA product ;)
