Double bubble acting as Magnifying Glass????

Howdy, about a week ago was the first time I have left my bike out in the direct sunlight all day parked up. I came back later that day to see a small blemish ontop of my instrument cluster....
It appears it may have slightly melted. Could this be caused by the kick in the double bubble screen?
Has anyone else come across this?
I will be purchasing a bike cover in the near future....But for the time being I am laying some vinyl ontop of the cluster when I ride to work.

Yeah, it's happened to me. If I know I'll be parking out in the sun, I try to remember to bring a vinyl cover, otherwise I'll throw my jacket over the screen. When I bought my double bubble, they provided the protective cover with it, and a note about the possibility of it melting. I was not impressed and wouldn't have bought it fad I known.
I seem to recall someone in Vic had extensive damage up their instrument cluster casing, but don't recall the circumstances or who it was.
Mine just has a small melt marK

Cath has told be her story before and I don't doubt it for a second. But I've got a clear double bubble cheapie screen from china, and I've parked it in the sun all day and never seen anything happen to my tacho or speedo...

Yeah it will be the screen that did it, happened on my old ZX6.

If i remember correctly that was a black tinted screen.

Isn't more on the newer models like 03 onwards with the single speedo tach unit? The ones with the old dials appear to be made from a hardier plastic

I have a feeling I have dash melt on my 7... or maybe it was the 9.
The SP2 definitely had it (with the stock screen even), but it was clearly inferior

Had a video on an old phone from the glass in my old Hiace work vans barn doors sending a laserbeam of focused sunlight across armaflex (insulation) causing it to scorch and smoke. It happened twice whilst I had it. So not an uncommon occurrence. Too bad if I was a painter

My bike is a 2000 ZX-9r with a Tinted Double bubble
I put a piece of vinyl over my cluster today and noticed this arvo where would be exactly the same 2 spots some disfigurment of the vinyl
So yeah mine is the source of the 2 spots.

A friend of mine has a BMW K1200S that it happened to. The screen was a genuine BMW tinted screen so BMW ended up replacing the instrument cluster at their cost.

My Puig screen was just delivered (along with some other goodies

) and the first thing I noticed was that the bottom 1/3 or so of it is more or less a solid black... Will keep my eye on it, but hopefully it prevents the issue.

That's not a bad idea..... to spray the bottom half or so black from the inside so it doesn't scratch..... I've gotta take the screen off so I might do it - hijack, but would satin black metal paint work well for this anyone know??
