Hi-Vis is just incredibly over-rated. Most hi-vis strips don't meet the upcoming change in the Australian Standards anyway for reflectivity at night and especially in wet conditions.......most of this crap loses its reflective ability when wet.

The answer is simple - we all need LED lighting strips like on the suits in TRON !! I would actually wear these because of their inherent awesomeness....
