Broken Frame ZX9R

Went for a quick spin to Mornington this afternoon, on the way home I noticed what looked like a crack in the frame just under the tank on both sides.
When I got home I had a better look underneath and took these photos.
I bought this bike with 10,000 k's on it and since then have only commuted to work every day. Now done 37,000 k's. In this time I have probably lifted the front wheel twice. So I am at a loss to explain why this has happened.
Anyone know of any similar incidences?
Has there been any sort of recall on this model (2001 E2 9R)
I'll take it down to John at Mornington tomorrow and get his advice.

Fark, I haven't seen anything like that. Looks like the fattest bloke in the world has been slamming down some monos. Even though the 9's are pretty tough.
What was the history before you had it?
Did you check everything 3 times, history etc etc

After a bit of search there have been quite a few in the US and UK although mainly on 2000 models.

I'll have a chat to Kawasaki and see what they have to say.
History of the bike is 3 owners, the first bought it to go touring on but after 6000 k's bought a cruiser instead.
The second owner only did about 4000 k's but from the condition of the bike when I bought it he didn't push it very hard.
I have only used it for commuting along the monash with the odd weekend ride and I'm definately not the boy racer type.

thats the case for a motor change
but for a new frame it will need blue slip and new rego as the frame is what is considered the bike
early zx9's used to crack iirc

That's shocking!
The right side crack seems easy enough to understand, looks like a welding issue initiated the failure... the left hand side though seems to have gone in sympathy due to do the increased bending stress.
IMO that's not repairable mate.

I hope you're taking it in a trailer, it shouldn't be ridden anywhere like that. Hopefully they can sort out some sort of a warranty claim with Kawasaki.

Bike on the trailer to get it assessed.
Kawasaki may come to the party with a new frame, however the cost of changeover is up to me.
This is similar to the stories I read about in the US.
Bloody Kuda laughing at me because his bikes not broken.
Might have to take to it with a hammer later.
