New defence for traffic fines

Seems that you can now get off with a traffic offence if you testify that you are 100% sure that you didn't commit the offence.
"I think it's important that ordinary people in the community, having received an infringement notice for an offence they didn't commit, basically understand that the system isn't weighed against them and they are entitled to have the courage of their convictions," Mr Keating said.
I like how he considers himself an ordinary person...
Multi-millionaire and ex prime minister is now ordinary...leaves me very ordinary then I suppose...

Magistrate Carolyn Barkell dismissed the charge, saying she found both stories were equally probable and, as there was a reasonable doubt as to whether the traffic light was red or amber, she had to dismiss the case.
But two police officers testified that it had been red. I suppose a ex PM is more credible than two police officers.

I though you weren't allowed to go through an amber light either??
And you are only right if as an ordinary man you can afford an extra-ordinary barrister.

amber light is perfectly fine to proceed through, its just there to warn you that its about to go red... there would be mayhem if lights went from green to red

I thought it was actually:
on amber driver/rider must stop if safe to do so
.. else proceed (maintaining same speed etc)

You are correct, this twat ex prime minister also stated that he accelerated through an amber light, again illegal.
I think the magistrate thought I can't be bothered dealing with this wanker and said case dismissed.
