Was working for an Adelaide Kawasaki dealer as a adult apprentice for 18 months and was made redundant. Instant. Not my doing but sucks. Its very quiet in the bike industry at the moment. Might have to find something else.

Olnly first year but nearly finished that. Have been in the industry before for a few years in a wreckers and at Boltons before this shop. I have too many bikes to work on at home to keep me busy for a while but if you need a hand with anything Mikey dont be afraid to ask. Still have alot of contacts out there.

Have long had the thought for a small business.
Looking at all the bikes in the CBD parked around the place and with people living busy lives I have thought about a mobile bike mechanic. Fit out a large van - Transit, Daily, Etc - and offer tyre changing, chain and sprocket, basic servicing onsite or collect and return by the end of the day. Overheads would be relatively low because you don't have a shop front - initial startup would be a bit exxy though.
People pay for convenience these days. Their bike is parked for 8 hours anyway while they are at work so they won't miss it and saves them from having to arrange alternate transport if dropping it off at a shop or taking time out on a Sat morning to get a rushed service.
You would still need to be in cahootz with a larger shop / dealership for the longer term / problematic repairs to take over but even then you can invoice them for transport and finders fee for work.
I know of a bloke doing this sort of thing for farm bikes here in Vic. Old farmer Joe is too busy to load the quad up onto the ute and have it sit in a shop for a week or two, so he goes out onsite and affects general servicing and repairs and has Joe mobile again same day if possible. Charges the same rates as the shops and does very well out of it.
Thats my idea and I hereby claim the Patent...... :D
Just a thought for you is all.
Like everything else I dream up I will never get around to doing it so I might as well give inspiration to another.
