A cyclist has been killed after being hit by two cars on a notorious bend near the Great Ocean Road.
The man, believed to be aged in his 40s, was knocked off his bike just after 6pm (AEST) on Monday on Horseshoe Bend Road at Torquay, Ambulance Victoria said.
The car did not stop and he was then hit by another vehicle, police said.
The second car stopped after hitting the cyclist.
Paramedics performed CPR at the scene but were unable to revive the cyclist.

Horseshoe bend road is bloody miles and miles away from the GOR ffs
Might as well say "a cyclist has been killed after being hit by two cars on a notorious bend near the grampians"
If you're over 16 you shouldn't be on a bloody pushy anyway.....

Yeah OK. Cycling itself isn't the issue; sure some riders have poor road craft - but drivers treatment of cyclists is far worse. And to knock someone off and not stop shows the disregard and contempt drivers have for any vehicle other than a car.
Hopefully this will throw more onus onto cages and away from 2 wheels

update............
Police now say the cyclist FELL OFF and then was hit by one car
...not knocked off and hit by two cars as previously reported
the news report now says - A cyclist is dead after he fell off his bike in front of traffic in a seaside town south-west of Melbourne late yesterday.
so what next for the GOR..???
A ban on all cyclists would be a good start

Or at least ban them from falling off!!!! I mean, if ya going to fall off on the GO road do it over the cliff, make a scene out of it, that's what I would do

Out of curiosity i had a look on google maps for this corner, i notice a nice big kink in it that must be related to it's name and decide to do streetview "walkthrough", low and behold this is what i see when i start off, bit of a coincidence 'eh? anyway it goes to show that everyone needs to be careful on the road, even cyclists.

Thanks Mike, here is the screen shot not much room for passing similar to our OPH, so do you think the car will overtake on the double lines?

Absolutely Rob, given the situation, would you sit behind the pushbike until you found a suitable spot to pass? Be VERY few cagers and even less b ikers that would!

Red light camera revenue would be the instigator there

yep
the 'fine' state of Victoria needs rego on treadlies so we can go after those naughty carns riding bikes who disobey traffic lights
Personally I would just make sure there is a 40wheeler going thru the otherway on the 'green'

IMO there are roads where pushbikes need to be banned. Anywhere where there is a difference of speed of 20kph or more and no shoulder for the pushies to ride they should not be allowed on. The picture above shows just how dangerous the situation is with one vehicle doing a rediculously slower speed and the other not being able to legally or safely pass at the speed limit. If they want to use the roads they should be able to do so without holding traffic up. If they can't they should stick to 50kph zoned roads.

+1 this is the best close to Melbourne riding road and cyclists cause havoc on the weekends. Can pass 40 or 50 on the way up. farkers do hillclimb competitions there!
