While I don't have the awesome HoffCam 5000 I've been playing with a mini DV cam with similar specs.
eBay - Mini DV Cam - approx $12
8gb Sandisk micro SD card - approx $20
Jelly fish eye lens - $3
Mounting velcro - $6 from K-mart
old NRMA card - $0
Sorry about the crap camera phone pics

I've still got a lot to learn re editing the video. It would seem I'm compressed the file too much and the song runs out rather than keep looping. Apart from that and the cam being slightly off line it's not bad. Having it in the helmet allows your comments to be heard as well.

I used the same camera, and had mega problems with sound volumes. The mike maxed out and distorted. How did you find it?

It makes my bike sound like a 2 stroke and my like a girl but on the whole no issues with any distortion - even when I'm yelling at some numbnut who has decided to merge into me it sounds pretty good. If I leave the visor open it picks up a lot of wind noise but thats to be expected.
On the whole I'm pretty happy with it tho - sort out the aiming problems a bit more and I think it'll be great
