Exhaust discoloration.....

Post by Disco »

After getting home from a ride yesterday I noticed that my left exhaust is turning yellow/gold @ the tip for about 100mm :? .....Oh and it's a Z1000 with twin stainless Yoshi's....My question is: Is this a fueling issue or just crappy quality?....They both have carbon build up on both tip's so I don't think it is a "lean issue" or is it?

Thank's in advance :kuda:

Both my Muzzy slip-ons and my new full Muzzy turned yellow. My wife said it was because I keep pissing myself when I ride but I think it's the heat. drunken_smilie.gif

Being it is just one side I would pull plug 1 and 4 and compare them, (One and Four because you don't have to dismantle the cooling system just raise the gas tank). Even though have a crossover pipe, the tip of the pipe turning yellow gold on one side could??? be a lean condition on 1 and 2. If it is lean on just one and two and you have a PCIII you can add fuel to individule cylinders. I had to add fuel to 3 and 4 when I put on my dual Muzzy slip-ons. When I went to a full exhaust all was OK. Anyway spark plugs will tell the tale. Jim Beam will make it all clear!!

^^^ Pretty indepth, I was justing going to say discolouration is from heat cycles; being one sided it's likely that one side has a lower temp threshold therefore discolouring more, because equal gass is running in both pipes as a result of the cross over in the header.
