Shorty Yoshi on the ZX10 now..!!

Hi all,

Well I had a spare akrapovic link pipe in the shed, so I picked up a cheap Yoshi with some minor damage off ebay, cut it down, buffed the Sh@t out of it, and it came up a treat...!!

I made it the same length as my other Leo Vince pipe I have on the other ZX10 Track bike.. as that length looks perfect and has just the right sound.. nice and deep without being stupidly loud... :D

And so here is the finished product.. cheap pipe..!!! I originally had the Scorpion pipe on, which I also love the look of, but it is very short and you cannot use the akro link pipe with the scorpion alone, it is way too loud, with such a big bore (60mm) .. so I had to run it with the pre chamber in line... That pre chamber weighs 10 kilos easy..!!

Anyway, here is the finished product.. Almost a shorty Yoshi..!!

I havent done a vid of the sound yet...

I know this wont help much but it sounds pretty deep and throaty, but starts to really bark once the throttle is twisted...

I cut around 120 - 140mm off the standard Yoshi pipe length... I copied off the Leo Vince Pipe I have on my track ZX10, length wise this is perfect, and is supposed to produce better mid range power.. wher the shorter pipes do not, losing the low down torque and midrange.... The longer pipe is supposed to be better, but the standard length is way too long, and only that way to quiet it down for the street...

My track bike really screams, and sounds excellent, although not ridiculously loud... I always prefered a tuned sounding exhaust against a noisy exhaust.. Listen to some of the bikes at Phillip Island.. so loud, but I am sure they are losing horsepower just for the noise factor.....!! :?

Macca, are the noise police tough at the Island ? Just curious, there's some clown running round on what looks like a K5 (never bothered to look closer) at EC, running what sounds to be a Racefit pipe - stupid loud, to the point of being offensive. The people running the trackdays don't seem to care, but perhaps that's becasue at the moment it's only the one loud bike.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Yeah I know the exact sound of the bike you are talking about.. raw, loud and offensive, and most probably running like sh@t due to the very poor exhaust...!! We have a few of them turn up at the island as well... I cant remember anyone ever being spoken to about the sound of their bike..?? I just know you can be having a conversation in pit lane with the regular sound of bikes going past, then there will be that ridiculously loud one that goes past, screaming away, where everyone looks and says how bad it sounds, but then it goes away for another 2 minutes.. !! I am sure that Andy would have spoken to some of the guys because the bikes do seem to go quieter as the day goes on, or just dont go back on the track again.. I will take more notice next time someone get's complained about......

Myself, I prefer a nice sound, more of a tuned exhaust, still barks when pushed, but not offensive...

You and me both, mate :)

Although I'll confess I'm tempted by the Japanese MotoGP replica mufflers, and their insanely light weight ...

BTW, my thumb brake arrived last week, and I lashed out on a kit alternator today - happiness and lightness in my garage !

Cheers,
Brian

The small MotoGp replicas arent that loud Brian. I have one and it is pretty tame atm but I am yet to put the link pipe on yet.

Thanks Blurr, what brand are you using ? Can't be arsed digging out the magazine this late, but these ones http://www.asahina-racing.co.jp/special ... enser.html were what I was looking at ; it doesn't jump out at me from the page, but I'm pretty sure the mag ad quoted some outrageous volume.
