I just got a new rear fitted and its 190/50 when the stock one is 55. The last tyre i had on there was the same (55). Just wonder if there is any problems with having this tyre fitted. Thanks.

no, no problem at all.
You will hardly notice a difference.
It may turn a little slower but not that you will notice much on the road. If you do just drop the forks through 5mm

thanks blurr. That was my feeling too. On the road no problem, at 250km/h on the track is different

i have to disagree. i have tried a 50 on mine and thought it was really average. being a flatter tyre aspecially when it weares down. i found change of direction was more difficult

If you wear the sides down first, you don't have that problem..
All manufactureres measure profiles differently so the profile numbers don't really mean a lot as you can't really use em to compare across brands. The shape and type of tyre is more important than the profile numbers...
I've used 50 profile to 65 profile rears and am currently using a tyre that has no profile on it just the diameter - its 650mm..
They all work..

I have compared the differences of profile on the tyres at the island, as I work in the tyre department, and they do change significantly...!!
As in a 190/50 compared to a 190/55 you can clearly see and measure the difference..!!
The 50 is much flatter and will definitely not offer the same corner grip when leaned over..!!
If you had a 55 on and now have a 50 on, chances are you have just lowered the rear of your bike 4.75mm (9.5mm in total)
Which I agree with Blurr and Madkaw, is not much and on the street you wouldnt even notice it, but at the track you would, and the shape / profile of the tyre is definitely not aimed at faster cornering.. it is way less 'Veed'...
This is why the race tyres are 60 - 65 profile...!!!

I disagree with the majority..
after recently changing from a lifetime of 190/50's to a 190/55 profile in a Metzler M3 I have to say the difference in height is dramatic..even to the point where the stand seems a few cm's shorter when I park the bike, it is also noticeable when riding the bike..but I wouldn't say it greatly affects the turn in performance of the bike..
I have become a 190/55 fan though..

Hoffy, you are agreeing with me..!!!
I also say that there is a big difference between 50 profile and 55 profile..!!
You can easily see and measure this difference..
I agree with Blurr and Madkaw on the fact that using a 50 on the street, you probably would not notice the difference at all...as none of us should be cornering that hard on the street anyway...!!!

I generally go with higher profiles tyres for the ride height, but as I said, shapes and profiles vary across types and brands..
for example...

What tyre did you get.?

and a 190/55 dunlup rubbed under the Hugger of my o4zx10r and when i stuck a 190/50 M3 on it didnt. But the 190/50 Rennsport did touch it.
also when you stick on a pilot power rear, the side wall is angled out (almost liek tyre is too wide for the rim) stick a 190/50 M3 on and the side wall sits vertical. almost like the tyre is too thin for the rim. all on the same bike.
Lets not get started about tyre pressures.
Oh and the Handout that dunlop gave out at the Wakefield FX round showing the external measurements of the old GP racers and newer GPA 190/55/17 race tyres, and how each was different in height.

The new 211gp is actually 6mm taller (3mm ride height) but 9mm thinner than the gpa of the same size...
