Was seized, now UNSEIZED!

On the weekend I went riding with one of the many clubs I seem to be a member of these days. The Ariel club (http://www.arielmcc.asn.au/) is mainly dedicated to trail-riders and they run a yearly event called Mallee Masters.

Was a fantastic event this year, with 50 bikes entered. I had a great ride Saturday, despite losing count of how many crashes I had. At one stage I had a big over-the-bars stack and twisted my neck, but it was all good Sunday morning. Didn't really want to get back on the bike on Sunday morning, with temperatures hovering around zero and my arse red-raw like a Japanese Macaque. So we set off and about an hour into the ride there was a slippery log across the trail. Having seen the bloke in front of me slip as he crossed it, I decided that the obvious thing to do was to hit it full-roar!! Seemed like a good idea at the time.

The rear of the bike slid along the top of the log, I went over the high-side, somersaulted and landed on my side, with my arm between me and the ground. Not sure if I have a slight hairline fracture or if the ribs are just bruised, but they're damned sore.

I rode for a few more hours before the tight, soft sand got the better of me and left me in too much pain to continue. My brother rode into the next fuel stop with smoke and steam pissing from his Husky, so I rode in the support car with his bike on the trailer and let him take my bike.

An hour down the track and there's my brother and bike on the side of the trail. The engine has seized, the kick-starter wont move and pressing the go button does nothing.

So it's off the road for a while. Oh, the joys of trail-riding!

What, sit and look at a broken bike, hoping I miraculously get hit with the mechanical aptitude hammer?

Sounds like you had fun for the best part of your time out there. Injuries are just a reminder of the fun had.

As for the rebuild, me thinks its easier to let someone already hit with the hammer do it for ya ;)

How many K's did you do on the ride?

Exactly!! I'm happy to take the engine out of my 2-strokes and reluctantly pull them apart, but there's no way in hell I'm opening this sucker!

170 on the first day, 90 on the second.

it could just be a stuffed CCT, which has jammed the cam-chain.....that will have the same effect as seizing.

4 stroke motors don't generally 'seize' up as a rule, unless they have been run dry of oil for a considerable period.....it is mainly something that has broken, and jammed the motor - same effect as seizing, but sometimes can be a cheap and easy fix........sometimes.....

Is that a TE250 or 310 ? or a big-banger ?

It's a Husaberg FE450.

Apparently there are documented problems regarding the main bearings in this model. I can't imagine that being a cheap fix. :(
