Found this:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... -recovery/

Briefly - owner of R6 with tracking has bike stolen. Alerts police as to where the bike is. Police advise him it's £150 for them to recover it citing contractors etc.

Would this happen in Australia? I've got no experience in this area (my security strategy is to park near nicer bikes) but just wondering.

I would say yes. Police job is to arrest scumbags not provide a transport service. After a road accident they will charge a recovery fee and storage fees if required and I do not see this as any different.

A couple of years ago my car was stolen from my place, the police found it 2 streets away, they rang me and told me I had the choise of going to pick it up or getting it towed and then picking up the car later, I told them that I would pick it up, but they towed it anyway and I was charged $95 by the tow truck company.

They actually towed it to their depot which was further away from my place than where the police found the car

So yeah I say that the transport would cost, but to recover the bike from the scumbag that stole it, well that their job and they get paid for it anyway, but then again being in the UK who knows that place is rapidly becoming circus.

Didn't we go through this discussion recently here ? There was a whole lot of palaver about storage costs and people being 'ripped off' if their stolen bike was placed in storage ??
