Has anyone heard of this happening before? The left bar snapped causing the rider to crash however crash repair team at local bike shop said bike was crashed first then bar snapped.
The bar has snapped towards the ground, not upwards like you'd sorta expect from impact.........does anyone know how to or best avenue to pursue this?

Has the bike been with the same owner since new? If so then i'd be getting legal advice, if not, then you probably need to prove the bike handlebar was in good nick when the bike was purchased and has had no traumatic event happened to it prior to the incident, that probably involves x-rays or some shit like that, expert witnesses and all if it gets to court I reckon and would be pretty pricey.

what exactly are you looking to pursue here mate ? How anyone could prove that a handlebar snapped first, causing a prang, is beyond me, if that is what you are looking to do. Old mate has pranged his bike, handlebar has snapped.....sounds pretty normal to me ?? Handlebars don't just 'snap' in half for no reason - about the worst I have seen in a similiar situation is Swabio's prang at OP a couple of years ago, where a loose handlebar rotated on the fork leg, and this caused him to prang.....
If the bike hit the ground and bounced over, then the handlebar could have been at any angle when it hit the deck - there is no reason to expect a bar to snap 'towards' the ground in a prang that I can think of. Even in a low-side, the angle of the bar on the low-side would be 'inwards' and 'down', and it would snap towards the ground, not upward ?
In any case, every prang is different, and unless you have really good footage of the prang, that shows the impact and all subsequent impacts - its a big ask to expect anyone to 'pursue' any sort of action based on the premise that the handlebar somehow snapped first from reasons unknown, and this caused a prang ?? Is this something along the lines of suing the manufacturer for poor quality control or some such ?
I hope old mate was not badly injured anyway.....

i'd remove any words like "stunt" from any of the discussions on the subject if you wanted to pursue anything. Neewbs doing wheelies on new bikes can cause some harsh landings, this could cause some extreme sudden loads exerted onto the bars. cant be good for them...

Mine snapped yesterday while I was riding but luckily I didn't crash. They are a different type of bar though. I wont be putting aftermarket bars on again though. The original Kawasaki ones can stay on it this time. For the record, I don't think the manufacturer intended to have someone my size man-handling the bars like I have on occasion.

Jesus H Christ !!

fuck me, I would be into the shop that sold these pieces of shit and give them a right gobful mate !! That's just bullshit. Handlebars, especially normal tube-bars like that, should NEVER break no matter how big a gorilla you are !! I have never seen normal steel-tube bars snap like that ever, but they look like aluminium tube bars ???
That is a huge lawsuit looking for a good mouthpiece.

you would need to get an independent engineer to investigate it
if it was proven that the bar snapped first and was not damaged by a previous accident/drop then you'd have comeback against the manufacturer, or if there was damage from a previous accident/drop then you'd have comeback against the repairer.

They are aluminium bars Gos. The brand is ABM and are sold by AUSFR. Here's the link:

I haven't contacted them yet to see what they say but will be in the next day or two.
