The "Technology challenges" they mention may include some form of continuous malfunction of GPS tracking device on my bike due to "vibration" and "foreign matter impact"

it was only a suggestion  - and like 95% of the suggestions in the Henry report, it was ignored by the govt.

I am not sold on the idea of being tracked all over the place by a GPS tracker in the car......but.....I think the idea of paying for road use, based on actual use - makes sense. Use the road heaps - pay for the privilege. Use it sparingly - and pay fuck-all.

How this can be achieved without violating privacy rights though......is the big problem.

with ya Gos
I like the concept...the problem is how to implement it without getting reamed by the guvmint
Mudderboike riders should pay little if it was introduced, in contrast a B Double takes up a shitload of roadspace
is slow and holds traffic up...ipso facto THEY PAY HEAPS

as I said i like it :kuda:

With you both.
Although i like the concept of "user pays" a lot, there are two bigarsed showstoppers. Privacy being the biggest issue, i can't see this being put into place WITHOUT some form of "for your own good" being involved. Secondly they've ignored bike riders and their lower footprint in the past in NSW, they'll do it again, and again, and again and again.....

Hmmm sounds a bit crazy to me..... there would have to be different rates depending on vehicle type / weight etc.... as trucks etc have a more damaging effect than cars and so forth....

which is fair, fuel = energy, more energy used more damage to roads. however the gov is very good at wasting money so they need more.

I agree - odo checks could be the better option.
Once a year speedo checks would be easy - rego checks already involve noting the odo.
Just reintroduce basic rego checks for new vehicles rego, or whenever they're in for a service.

I also agree with Blurr though - you're starting to sound like a broken record Seiko.
What I've heard of the Henry report gives me a largely positive vibe from it in a big picture view - not surprised Rudd has ignored it.
