It's not enough of a rise - they should be $40 a packet, that would force more people off them, free up hospital beds and reduce the millions of taxpayer dollars spent on preventable diseases.

It was never supposed to be fucking implemented much less raised!! As for smokes, I gave them up ages ago but I wonder honestly at the cost of smokers to the health system vs the amount of tax dollars raised from the habit, no doubt both are extensive but which outweighs the other?

Really really hard to quantify the full cost of smoking I suspect, to do it properly you would have to take into account the environmental damage done by smoking, matches lighting up smokes, the cost of cleaning up after smokers and then once you have those figures then do the health and social costs, any bean counters up for the challenge?

Macca had the best idea last night, instead of more anti smoking ads they should subsidise the quit smoking programs in all their guises, this is a far better way than scare tactics or price increases to get Joe Public off the durries.

either patches or read "the easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. I half read the book a couple of years ago and i quit for a year.
Started up again for several reasons, but i reckon that had i finished it i would have been ok.
