I just found out while hunting down some parts that Red Baron on Hoxton Park Road are about to become a Kwaka dealer. It's still a couple of weeks away though.

I just got an interesting letter in the post.....Addressed to me personally from "Red Baron Kawaski"Promoting there new venture into kawasaki...I have never even been there
Wonder if they got a list of name's of new bike's sold from Aitken's over the past year from Kawasaki Aus and decided to let them use the detail's for promotion

.....
Don't get me wrong I don't mind knowing about a new dealer but don't want my detail's just given to anybody

Same and I am pretty pissed off about it too. I'll be following this up with them and also with Kawasaki too if I get no where with them.
Disco I know you bought from Aitkens and so did I. Anyone other Aitkens customers get the letter?

Very poor security of your personal details. I would definately follow up and put a stop to it.............
I know of a Motorcycle delership a bit further south and west of Liverpool that sold personal details of bike purchases that included finance and insurance to a gang of theives....... Brand new bikes were going missing from customers garages

wouldn't your details be registered with kawasaki, i'd assume they keep on file incase of recalls etc?
and possibly they've been passed on to red baron from kawasaki?

It's either got to be Aitkens trying to recoup some sort of return on their lost business via selling their kwakka database or it's kwakka corporate. If it is the latter then it is totally inexcusable IMO.
Anyone had any experience with the legalities of this before? I know there are well defined laws around privacy for govt depts and banks etc but what about general busines?
I have no issues with kwakka Corp sending me the letter on behalf of Baron but if they have provided my personal info to a third party who I do not have any knowledge of and I've not given them permission to do so then we have a problem.

I really don't see what the problem is. I doubt whether Aitkens would have provided the info as I don't think the split was all that amicable. I've bought heaps of stuff from Aitkens plus I've had my bike serviced there and I haven't got anything. If you've ever bought a new Kawasaki then Kawasaki will have your details. A letter telling you there is a new dealer coming soon is a good thing I think.
As for people sending address lists, unfortunately that just happens these days. Witht the amount of data recorded on systems etc these days it is an inevitability.
