ZX6R Monster run in

Hi, I've just about run in my new 6r.. Thing is I find it has really audible tappet noises. When cold it sounds particularly noisey/rattly and as the oil gets to the top of the engine and warms it settles down.. but no matter how warm I can still hear a slight noise. Is this sounding pretty normal? It was something I was going to ask at the first service but perhaps a heads up first from you guys to clear the issue?

Welcome to KSRC Salty
Mate there is allot going on on that motor & it will make tapping noises, as you have already said get the dealer to check at first service, better still get them to put another six beside it & compare the two if it will put your mind at ease.

Cool - I've done some reading and they all seem to do it to a degree... it isn't bad but can hear a faint sewing machine inside my helmet around 5k.

yeah mate it will happen.
The fix is to rev it harder so that your going so fast that you only can hear wind noise and a high pitched rev of the 6r engine.

Mine (had one like your's for a bit) was quiet for the first few hundred K's and then developed the tick as it ran in.....Although the Zed has 2,000+ K's and is still quiet

Yep I'm a Farrider

Great - She's on about 1000kms right now and the tick isn't too bad - the tick developed after about 200kms also - I thought perhaps they give her a small adjustment on first service. Had a few bursts to 10k but wont give her the full blast until the old oil and bits of metal are drained.. pretty rapid from the small part of the power band that I have experienced.

Another question. I've done the tail tidy - and managed to fit the Reg cert on the undertail out of view - which means it's there but not really visable.. Don't now how legal that is - but saw a CBR last night with the reg in a bullet like capsule to the side of the rear seat. Pretty keen to get one - do you know where and what the brand is? New Exhaust ordered.

Just installed the hotbodies MGP growler - it sounds so goddamn sweet now.. not a huge amount louder, but the note is awesome and she blips and bangs between gear changes which just sounds hot.
