Ok, what would you do?
Use voting buttons and give me a little spill about why you chose that...
i am going to leave the CC's out as i dont want fan boys bashing saying "buy a 10, no buy a 12, no buy a 6 etc.."
2000 model bike with 25,000 on the clock. stock as a rock, one owner, all service history etc. been sitting for about a year, so no rego.
Bagster tank bag, near new tyres, bike cover, security chain + lock, saddle bags, battery charger, 2 near new helmets, gloves. Original manual, 2 keys. This is from a private seller.
$6700
or
2001 model, 61,300km on the clock, Yoshi stainless muffler, new tyres front & rear, carbon look rear hugger, tinted screen and seat cowl. from a dealer with 3 months rego.
$6990
im at a stage now where i can go put a deposit down on either one, but finding it hard pressed to decide, so figure i would pick your brains.

The least amount of k's would be my choice.
I'm 44 with with 2000,000,000klm's
wouldn't she be better off with a 45 yr old with only 2000,000

thanks seiko, that sorta makes sense...in a weird sort of way
anyone ever leave a deposit with a private seller? what measures do you take to make sure they don't run off with your money?

get them to sign a letter that you type up, include their name and address, be formal and mention how much the deposit is and what it is for... you should keep one for yourself, ive done it once, my mate's done it once... if you get a bad vibe then trust it, but id think most people would be honest...
oh and go for the one with less kays dude, its simple...

talk the dealer down to 5500.
im not sure about everyone, but i'd flog a bike i didnt care about to a dealer before i'd sell it private. i always seem to find private sales are by people who care a little bit more.

No need for a big deposit either, you could come unstuck if something goes awry

Are they both the same bike? If so, I'd go the 2000 model with lower k's.

Well that made this easy... called the guy and booked an inspection on the weekend!

Since it's the same bike - definitely the private sale, I reckon. Unless the dealer one is green and the private one isn't
And unless you get a dodgy feeling from the seller, leaving a deposit is fine. Get a receipt for the deposit, and make sure you meet the seller at their house. Make sure there's nothing obvious that would make it unregisterable

go the private...after a check of course as to condition and ownership
(no use buying a stolen one or one under finance)

If the private sale was in the dealer they would be asking $8,000 plus with 3 months rego......... Not a hard decision at all IMO.......

yeah wasnt that hard smithy, but basically paying the extra cash at the dealer for the convenience of knowing its not financed by anyone else or stolen, and already registered.
every bike ive owned ive had to go through a blue then green slip and id rather avoid it if i can.
when i talked to the guy he seemed genuine and the bike is in immaculate condition. I hope i can talk him down to 6k, considering the rego costs will see me at about 7.5k+ in the end.
Still not bad for what im getting, but not in my price range.
