Rider dies in smash on Great Ocean Road

AAP February 3, 2010

A motorcyclist has died after a head-on collision on Victoria's Great Ocean Road today.

The rider, a 40-year-old Ballarat man, had just overtaken a Porsche Boxster when his motorcycle and a Subaru wagon collided near the Cumberland River, between Lorne and Apollo Bay.

He died at the scene. The Subaru driver, a 36-year-old woman from Merewether Heights in NSW, is assisting police, who will prepare a report for the coroner.

I got the call about 2 hours after it happened :(

Was (should read, will always be) a bloody top mate of mine, I know everyone says it after someone has past but Mick was one of the best. Nothing worried him and i never ever saw him even get slightly cranky (not even with me and thats rare) and not to mention an awesome rider.

A few of you would have had the pleasure of spending time with Mick. He came down and camped with us a few times in the KSRC compound at the GP, including the year of the famed cow tipping attempt (Yes he was one of those involved). He also came on all but 1 (the weekend he got married) of the KSRC Halls Gap Hell Tours, Only ever as a day rider but non the less was always keen as hell to make the trip up from Ballarat for the day along with the other mates, including Scotty (Purple YZF 600 with an old coat hanger holding the muffler on) and Chicko (Green ZX-7, who hit the Kangaroo over the top of the mountain at last years HGHT)

He will be badly missed by many in Ballarat and anyone who knew him.

R.I.P Mate, Love ya and give em hell on those great twistie roads in the sky.

RIP, sympathies to you Stace, his riding buddies (Ballarat riders?) and of course his family.
