Hi all, it seems that not many people know that you actually can repair CDI units... I was skeptical at first but surprisingly it is possible. I was ecstatic when I tried a replacement unit which performed even better then the original one. C ya

Hi, welcome aboard yada yada...

Many people do know you can repair CDI's - they are just another piece of electrical equipment, with bits and pieces that fail and which can also be replaced. It's not like black magic or anything ??

What sort of CDI unit did you have repaired ??

I know that Small Coil Rewinds in Geelong are pretty good with this sort of thing, and there are one or 2 others around that can also fix CDI units...

You'd have to admit then that your first post was rather bizarre by anyone's standards and looked just like spam :?.

Most people say "hello my name is Mick and I ride a Honda Hornet/Kawasaki ZZR600/whatever and I live in the Macedon Ranges", they don't tell everyone a seemingly useless fact to kick it all off :).

Welcome by the way, had a ZZR600 myself pre-Hornet.

Any electronic equipment is easy to repair once you know the secret of all electronic components.
The secret is that they all contain smoke. As soon as the smoke escapes, they don't work anymore.

Don't worry about some of the negatives in here mate. Most of them wouldn't know what a CDI was or what it did anyway, so posting up your post isn't as silly as some have said.

As Gos said, small coil rewinds in Geelong are very very very good at this stuff. I have a CDI on my racer which has been modified by them. It has a totally different ignition curve and no rev limiter. It howls once over 12,000rpm. It keeps up with modern stuff down the chute and is a 1995 ZX6R!! Faark, I just realised, my little race bike is 15 years old now!!!
