Looks a very expensive piece of gear that is not easily hidden in the case of being pulled over.

I'm guessing they are illegal everywhere bar WA (if you believe the site). To me $2k seems a lot of money for something that is going to get you severely in the shite if you are spotted having one fitted. It's almost as if you are admitting to constantly speeding all of the time and can justify paying $2k not to get caught.

What's with the laser sensors? They are almost marketed as parking sensors, wtf is with that?

I got one here that has radar & laser detectors BUT be ready to ditch it into the grass if you get pulled........ over $1000 fine and 12 points in Vic if caught using it

The fine in SA is substantial, plus the radar detector gets seized and destroyed.

The laser detectors do work, but..... they are very, very directional and by the time the laser has locked in your speed (almost instantaneous at the pull of the trigger) it's pretty much too late to do anything about the warning.

I'm assuming that's a typo as a "can" be detected, the detector would be useless. If it's a can't be detected detector and you are thinking of buying one, do some serious research before hand. Most detectors can be detected by the Micro Stelth Systems radar detector detector. It's called the Stalcar and it's now on version 4. This device is in use by most HWP nationwide. It's suction cupped to the windscreen. Most if not all imported radar detectors emit a LO frequency signal from the electronics and the Stalcar is designed to pick this signal. There are a couple of mobs in Australia that claim they can build a detector to counteract this Stalcar threat. Try Creative Electronics in Matraville or Australian Radar Dection Services in Brisbane. Easily found with google.

I can't access the link form my work computer, but depending what states you wan't to use it in, you will need something that works on K and Ka bands.

From a bike point of view, even if it was undetectable, installation and concealment on a bike would be very difficult, if not impossible.

At the end of the day, all it takes is for a copper to zap you from behind and watch your brake lights come on - you've given the game way. I wouldn't bother with a laser detector either. Also take into consideration the fines and demerit points these things bring if caught using them in a vehicle.

It's amazing that people can sell these....illegal to use but legal to sell/buy. A bit like CB radio when they first came out. Dick Smith made a motza selling these but it was illegal to use. When there were too many in use the govt. decided to licence them and make money...now doesn't come as a surprise...

As aardvark says - it's an expensive way to get a bit earlier notice that you have been detected.

The instructions also tell you this ;)

Well, you see the thing is, that in "most" countries the radar camera's were "sold" to the populace as being "SAFETY CAMERAS" and NOT revenue generators, they were also at that time, only allowed to be placed on roads that had a high accident rate - therefore all that it took was for a single test case in the courts, which determined that as a "professional" driver, as much notice as possible should be given, to warn the driver he was entering an accident blackspot and adjust his driving to suit, also that a fine several weeks after the offence ocurred would have no impact on road safety.
As an aside,
The guy who invented "the camera" now believes it is the wrong way to address the accident problem........ his answer is
"Suprise,Suprise" that a visible police presence on the road, who can "educate" drivers/riders that stupidity kills not speed.....

To answer an earlier question, no i don't speed everywhere but when you are in the hills coming out of a corner onto a straight, you only have to get pinged at 30km an hour over the limit and you lose your license and get a huge fine to boot. I rang the company and although i don't really understand the technology he told me that it will detect any camera that is hand held or roadside and the absolute worst case scenario would be in heavy traffic where it will still detect the radar at least 300 meters before the beam hits you, plenty of time to slow down. He went on to say the only cameras it won't detect are ones mounted to poles or red light cameras. He said he guarantees the technology and it will not become outdated, ever. If someone else would like to give them a call maybe you will understand more of what he said than me ?? As far as mounting the camera is concerned he said it is about the size of a cigarette packet, so it couldn't be too hard to tuck it under the fairing or somewhere that it can't be seen ??

If you are that keen on one........ make me an offer on mine, I can't afford to get caught with using it here in Australia ;)

He said he guarantees the technology and it will not become outdated, ever.
That is an awfully BIG call and at this point he loses all credibility...that and the point where he says you have
at least 300 meters before the beam hits you
So if he has re-arranged the laws of physics and you now get 300m 'warning' how come it doesn't detect hand held cameras?

The mounts and detectors on their website look substantially bigger than a cigarette packet, and I guess you can tuck it away in the 300m (at 130km/h you are travelling 36m/s ) you are coming to a stop, or do you leave it on the bike for the weather/local thief to get at it (assuming you have a fairing of course). I assume if it's tucked away in your fairing you lose sight of the detector doing its detecting as well, or am I missing something :D.

If you read my post properly you will see that it says the unit does detect hand held camera's. Also, if you take the time to call them yourself then maybe they can answer your technical questions that i cannot explain. It is a good point you made about the unit not being weather proof, they certainly overlooked something there. As far as it being stolen is concerned, i would not be too worried if i could hide it somewhere out of sight.

Trust me - if you're going to get one, pay for a good one.

10 band scanner, 360 degree protection and picks up Gatso (fixed/ mobile/ red light) cameras plus laser too

Great, how much ? Is it waterproof ? What sort of range has it got ? How does it warn you there is a radar ahead ? Do you own one yourself ? What is involved with fitting it to your bike ?
