Great idea and should save many of those lost fingers/hands and whatever parts get zapped. Wonder if the concept can be adapted to the hand held circular saws and even chainsaws.

I saw this a few years ago while the guy was developing it. He used a hotdog and not a finger to demonstrate it, the dog still got a decent nick taken out of it. Which is still a vast improvement on having a finger sliced off. but would still freaking hurt. It looks like he has improved the process considerably as he was happy to throw his own finger in there.
Not that it's much of a complaint, but the only problem is that it is a use-once technology, which may be a problem for the clutzes out there.

I guess a one-use saw is better than a no-use finger.
I must have watched the close up a half-dozen times. I'm still not sure whether he touched it or just got close enough to have the sensor go off.

Guess would be it has to touch to set the sensor off

he was real cautious but

It caused a nick in the sausage but nothing in his finger was what originally got me thinking.
Either way, a nick is way better than lopping the end off...Awsome stuff!!
