Hello Citizens.

Well, a friend just confirmed what I was thinking.
I need to stop being a ride whore and be more selective when I choose who to ride with.
I went on a ride with a medium sized group and there were two offs at different stages.
Both were young guys with no insurance and both came off because they were riding too fast.
Sure, they and the others had their theories but they were just riding at speeds that they weren't good enough to be travelling at on those corners.
Thankfully there was an old guy called Bruno, another guy called Hung (pronounced "Hoong" for all of those with dirty minds) and a beginner, Jennifer, who did not have to tell me how good they were.

Excellent, I have that off my chest.
I am far from the best rider in the world but I do not tell everyone I am.
I am a Kawasaki pilot, not a kamikaze pilot.

The Lesson Learned: I will definitely put my safety first and be more selective with who I ride with from now on.

Definitely a good way to ensure many years of enjoying the freedom 2 wheels can offer.

King, you have made one of the best judgment call's right there! the unfortunate thing is its hard to approach another rider you may not know & check if he/she has insurance, will you get a backlash, be lied to ...... anything could happen. We were caught out a while ago with a regular open run (open to any rider experience) a young lass who rode quite confidently appeared & went on the run with us, somehow during the course of the morning the topic of insurance came up, & she piped up & mentioned she had none this was the first time that we had encountered this situation & there were plenty of regulars that were taken aback & made the decision right there & then that they would not ride with her, I kept my distance too, but have often wondered how many riders that we ride with have no no insurance

I had a mate come off behind me up the spur one day. Scariest thing ever. I thought he was dead.
I had a feeling i shouldn't be riding with him, he was trying to prove he was a great rider on a fast bike.

I'm all for having fun and going fast, but when your out to prove something to your mates, disaster is in the air.

unfortunately/fortunately most of us who have been riding for years have already come across this phenomenon
as you say its better to be a Kawasaki pilot

Yesterdays crew was PERFECT!
No unecessary overtaking (of each other ) and everyone was no more than 100 mtr's apart ALL day!
I never heard a single "fuck I'm just soooo good" comment all day long.

Although I'm still no wiser as to what the hell a "speed limit" is!

Yes, choose who you ride with. As I have posted before, I've had many a rider who tried to follow me and have had a come off, not because of my riding skills, but because they were having uncontrolled laughter at my "abilities" or lack thereof. A good brew is a cure for lack of riding ability, just don't ride when you 've had one. Snow and 15 Degress F, (-8 C), snowboarding is great M/C riding is slippery.

It's because we didn't have to try and keep up with him

I don't really care if someone is insured or not.... because at the end of the day, I am always full comp.... and am happy enough to let my insurance company pursue the costs.... I have had an uninsured moron back into my adventra, didn't affect me at all.. .made the claim..... got the car fixed.... no excess to be paid as it was 100% their fault... the insurance chick i spoke to at the time of the claim, as I mentioned that they were uninsured and in a shit box.... responded with "oh well, it looks like another $20 a fortnight repayment schedule".

But.... i will keep my distance from wankers insured or not..... because regardless of their level of insurance.... they are the ones likely to cause me harm..... the insurance status does not predicate ones safeness on the road.... it just displays the level of financial risk they are willing to take

I for one am not insured, so if noone wants to ride with me as a result, that's fine. Insurance quotes for me range around the $800 mark, bike is probably worth 3k, 5k absolute max so i'll save my $ and take my chances. I think i'm a fairly competent rider and definately wise enough in years to not be trying to out ride the Mick Doohan's of the world, or even the wannabe Mick Doohan's, happy to go out and have a fang and ride home at the end of the day instead.

What..... not even third party fire & theft Mick? just as a matter of interest.
I have gone quite a few years in the past with that as a minium but the bikes were not worth much & when there are 2-3 to insure its bloody expensive.

Yea I only have 3rd party insurance on my bike... If I come off and damage someone else’s property they are covered tough luck to me if I can’t afford to fix my bike, my own fault anyway lol. Also comprehensive insurance is about the same price a year as my bike is worth lol
