hi - just posted this in the newbie section - aqny advice much appreciated - i.ve loved these things 4 yrs and just discovered what they r

===========================================
hey guys, just joined. Got a broken arm - typing a bit dodgy,

looking at getting a bike - always loved the look of hte eddie lawson thing - y'knoe, green n upright - didn't realise what it really was until i came here and looked about.

question: is this just plain crazy for a bloke who has never ridden a bike b4?

shit thi hurts!

if i like that sort of thing - style of bike - colour n stance - but u think the ZRX is just too much for me as a newbie, what would u suggest as a starter bike?

where do i go to find a ZRX - or a starter versiuon of it..

many thanks - in Bris.

apologies to all for the stupid questions - i've just been reading about the LAMS scheme and list of approved bikes in Qld - what a klutz!

No harm done in asking mate, you wouldn't be the first to ask a stupid question here, and as you now know, the 1200's aren't on the LAMS scheme in ANY state so best find something smaller for starters :)

CB400 is an old school look, with a few modern bits thrown in.

I hate to say it, but they are about the best Learner bike going at the moment. I highly rate them.

A ZRX for your first bike - um no, not a good idea. ;)

The ZR250 Balius is the 250 cc version I spose you could say, but if it were me I'd go for a ZR550. I had one and it was a great little bike - wont suck the wallet dry on purchase OR running costs.

I agree the CB400 is a great bike - excellent in fact. It is also $10K+ by the time you get it on the road. I'd expect you could pick up a decent Zeph or Balius for under $5K. Add in some gear - if you havent ridden before you will need to buy Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, Boots etc........all those $$ add up in the end.

I CAN understand why you want a ZRX though

if you are picking up your first bike, pick up a used one from a private sale. Good choice on not going for faired ones. As your first bike, consider the high chances that you will drop it...the slow 2kmph drop. Having a faired bike hurts on the pocket and soul then.... :|
Pick up a cheaper bike, but rather invest more money on good protective gear and maybe even a Hart's course.
As suggested earlier, an used cb400, zr500, a smaller Bandit or a GS500 would be good. Even though i like the VTR250, they are just unreasonably high priced, even the used ones.
