Good to see the threat of taking people's license away works well! [/sarcasm] Fining the shit out of drivers and issuing double points has done nothing to the road toll in this country, yet the idiots continue to refuse to consider other options.

Well, they would look bloody stupid if they now said "Oh, hang on, shit drivers being careless kill - not some dude doing 10k's over the stpidly low speed limit".

Police take to the air to target road safety – Operation Safe Arrival 2009
Monday, 14 Dec 2009 12:51pm
***Editors Note: footage of the plane in flight will be available via Channel Ten. Stills are available by contacting the Police Media Unit on (02) 8263 6100 ***
With the Christmas season upon us NSW Police have today unveiled two new initiatives to help combat the growing road toll and make sure everyone makes it home safely.
Police will be out in force from midnight Friday 18 December until 11.59pm Sunday 3 January 2010 as part of Operation Safe Arrival, the annual Christmas/New Year road safety campaign, and this year motorists will be targeted from the sky –with the use of a fixed wing plane.
“This operation sees NSW Police use a fixed-wing plane to target speeding, fatigue and other dangerous driving behaviours from the sky,” said Commissioner Andrew Scipione.
“The ‘Cessna 206H Stationair’ will be crewed by trained traffic police who will use the plane to monitor drivers from the air, observing signs of fatigue.”
“Importantly also on board the Cessna is an approved device that measures the time taken for a vehicle to travel between special lines that have been marked on the road by the RTA. Where police on board detect a speeding offence a ticket will be issued by mail to the registered owner. Police will also have the capability to coordinate ground- based officers to intercept the vehicle if necessary,” Commissioner Scipione said.
“Road users should know, police are now everywhere targeting speeding – even the sky.

Thanks for the reminder Hoffy, i wasn't exactly sure when the circus was going to kick off again.
As to the eye in the sky, lets see just how long this gets run before they give up again. I's sure I should start taking bets as to how long they hold out if it turns out to be a bum steer.

I reckon 337 people will lose their license this holidays alone in the new safety camera on pennant hills rd..if you didnt live in the area you would have NFI it is there, and its at the bottom of the hill in a 60 zone...it will have to issue 100O+ fines per day easy..at least 70,000 cars would go past it every day..
BEWARE THE SAFETY CAMERAS !

I have seen the big white lines being put along the highway at measured intervals, so they can see you from on high
This strategy was tired years ago when I was a boy, not sure why it died then probably not cost effective, which brings me to the point about the road toll, we all know its TAX income like this ETS crap.
You know if the dinosaurs had a fart tax they could have controlled the climate and would still been alive today!
