I am wanting to purchase a ventura rack for my bike but don't need the bag......
I was told that if I have a Tag out of a bag then I can buy just the rack

.....
Is this true? And if so doe's anybody have one that they are willing to part with?..

what rot...
we sell just the l-brackets and/or racks all the time.
it would make things very difficult for us if we had to see tags from people in Broome for example, just because they decided they want a sports rack instead of a normal one

I HAD to produce a tag to send back to Mr Ventura to buy the whole rack OR pay a very inflated price buying all the pieces of the rack separately.

really?
I send out separate bits all the time, no probs. Although I will say it is generally cheaper to buy a whole kit in one go than in bits.

Yep, you can buy the separate, 'replacement' bits, but they won't sell you the complete kit (which is much cheaper than buying the three pieces separately). If you have a tag to prove you own one of their bags they will sell you the complete kit for the cheaper price.

I reckon this is just the biggest crock of shit - it's basically a restraint of trade, and they should be reported to the ACCC for this bullshit.
Fuck me, if you want to buy one of their racks, why the HELL do you need to prove you have one of their bags as well ??? It's bullshit.

The wife looked into bying 1 for me for the 10 for xmas.
$458 for the rack and bag or $339 for the rack alone.
on presenting tag from rack i am able to get $50 off bag price.
rack price is inflated by the $50 to stop people putting cheap bags on ventura racks.

problem is the "cheap" bags are mostly better

Uhh no, we sell kits sans bags all the time....we don't give $ off if you've got a bag already.....
Case in point : the Honda Rider upgraded bikes to a 900, he kept the bag when he sold the 600, and just bought L brackets and a rack for the 900. No bag. No problem. Except for him not liking how they looked on the 900, that is

What the hell happened to "Gearsack" anyway
They were really good shit back in the eighties and I prefer the square tube construction to that gay arse round tubing.
Nothing that shape should ever be pointed at a males arse

What do you mean 'Uhh no'? Did I imagine having to do this? Did I jump through all of these hoops for the amusement of the salesman? It must be a common joke amongst bike shops then, because a lot of them are in on it. Just because YOU might do things one way doesn't mean everyone in the world does it exactly the same way, does it? I guess it does because your response to my encounter was 'no, it didn't happen that way, it happens like this'.
Why did I have to produce the tag to get the cheaper rack? It's not in the bike shop's interest to make these requests, is it? They were just following the orders of the company they get them from, who do this shit to stop people from buying just the rack and putting another type of bag on it. As I said, they would sell me the bits, but not at the same price. To get the whole rack at the cheaper price I had to produce the tag from my old bag. It wasn't a discount at all. They were different part numbers and the cost of the part number for the complete kit was much cheaper than the combined cost of the parts. So yes, anyone could walk in off the street and buy the two L brackets and the hoop but it was going to cost more money to do it this way. Also, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T ORDER THE PART NUMBER FOR THE FULL RACK WITHOUT THE TAG!
Just in case you missed that bit earlier.
Now I'm not the only person that this has happened to (yes, it DID happen!) and it has been assumed that this is common practice for a while now amongst many riders whom I have talked to about the topic because I was so put off by having to do it.
If you can manage to get complete rack sets at the cheaper price without the need for a tag then please confirm it and then let everyone here know so we can direct all prospective buyers to contact you to buy them off as we are sick of the bullshit that HAS been going on.
