........
thanks Dave

most Vic riders that I have spoken to..... think this is an overexaggerated piece of fiction and a waste of OUR money
that does NOTHING for bike safety and only goes to show ALL road users that riders are an irresponsible lot and just happen
to ride all the time ignoring traffic laws

but hey , the good news is........... these 'bad' motorcycle riders will get fixed up by oncoming traffic

I personally dont know what they are trying to achieve with this ad.....
scaring people off riding? or just telling us that if we ride on the road like dickheads we will end up deceased?
or just telling the rest of the road users in Vic that motorcycle riders cant be trusted in traffic ?

Whichever..... I am waiting to see TV ads on the roadhabits of -
taxi drivers
sand and soil truck drivers
couriers
but I aint holding my breath........

I want to know why instead of spending so much money on some scaremongering, it wasn't spent on awareness of motorcycles.

I ride to and from work every day (roughly 70km a day). Yes I do lane split.

However, Aggression from vehicles in relation to lane splitting? If I split, it makes no difference to them, I experience maybe 2-3 outbursts of tin can aggression towards lane splitting a week. Had one this morning. Suck it up princess

I wear appropriate gear.. I mean, what makes you stand out more than a bright pink mankini?

My biggest gripes is the people who constantly flaunt the law driving while on the phone. I'll get done for speeding one day trying to overtake them. Can spot them from a mile off.. Often veering from side to side, head tilted to one side, braking late, etc etc.

It would also seem a large proportion of our population down south dont feel the need to headcheck before changing lanes.

It'd be interesting to know who the ad agency that came up with it was. Typically these kind of shock ad's are a waste of time, particularly when they show consequences as severe as the one in this ad. It was the same as the old Kombi head onning the truck ad. The consequences are so severe and so remote that people instantly give it the "that's not going to happen to me"treatment.

A more realistic scenario would be the dude getting busted and hoofing it to work for six months or losing their job or having an acco that put them out for a few months etc. That would be a more realistic consequence and would probably engage a lot more of the audience.

The other thing is it automatically irritates the target audience by painting them as knobheads so you switch off.

They'd be better showing an ad displaying a rider doing all the right things and showing how that kept them out of trouble

Absolutley...that's a hell of a lot more effective than showing the guy ploughing into a car. It gets's your attention, shows the guy enjoying himself, safely, has a bit of humour with the bird crap, has a clear message at the end.

The TAC ad is a waste of the Vic taxpayers money. The ad agency love it because they'll be doing another one in twelve months.

Where's the Gruen transfer when you need it...........
