I was riding today and after giving it a bit on rolling off the throttle there was a fairly loud backfire. It wasn;t popping it was a decent POP. I wasn't ringing the f**k out of it but between 10-12k rpm. It happened a couple of times although it hasnt happened before.

Is this normal for a ninja 250r or is it just unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I did snap off the throttle and let the bike decellerate by itself.

Its got a modded exhaust on it and the guy who owned it before me apparently adjusted the needles in the carbs but not sure.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

second time i was ready for it, first time, almost brown showered the bike.

It's happened to me a couple times when starting the bike. Apparently it's not uncommon.

Yeah does it to me every now and then 2 guys, Just un burnt fuel dont worry, Usually does it after a big ride mostly first start up in the morning, Sounds scary when it happens but have been told its NORMAL , . Have only ever put Vortex 98 in my bike, has more performance and gets about 330km out of a full tank.

yeah if you put a larger pipe on it it will make it richer hence the extra fuel in the pipe. Because of hte extra fuel in there and the exhaust being hot thats what the pop is.
Its not urgent to get it fixed, but you need jetkit for yur carbies to match the new pipe.

I'm reasonably confident I got more backfiring with 98RON vs 95RON........ i figure it's too much fuel awesomeness for the twin so now I use 95 or 91 if I can't get it.

Only have standard pipe on Saki and still does it. Not going to put a Yoshi or another pipe on as they sound ahit on a 2fidi.

eat me. At least it sounds a bit better and people can hear you. the stock pipe is a fly in a beer can and people cant hear you = merging fun.

what else am i going to do for another year.

lol, dam your the first person to have owned one who has said that! Personally i agree with u, the para twin sounds not nice!

well the popping i assume would mean there is a bit to much fuel cause hte popping is unburnt fuel going into a hot exhaust pipe, but cause hte pipe is so hot it ignites. Its not bad for it and if anything sounds extra tough! My bike does it sometimes, but i like it, however im getting it fixed soon.

Maybe your carbs need a tune up? How many km's on ya bike ? When was the last time carbs where serviced ?

Not waste money on a 250 trying to make it "sporty", but rather invest in good/better gear, rider training and practice riding! Its a 250cc, its not going to fool anyone who rides a bike, just some girls who dont know naything about bikes!

Hey, i'f you've invested that money in gear and training already, your well within your rights to throw a can/system on your 250. it may not do a lot, and most people (including myself) may suggest putting money elsewhere first. But if you have already done that, and your keen, more power to you (excuse the unintentional pun).

then if you have good gear, you've done a few advanced rider courses and you feel you've done what you can, then save your money and dont waste it on mods for your 250, cause you'll be riding the pants off it and be keen as to get on ya next bike! Your just losing money with mods!
Plus unless you plan on keeping your 250 as long as you'd keep your bigger bike, why waste money ?
