Does anyone have or know where you can insure a track bike?

I'm not even sure it's possible as standard insurance won't cover a bike on a racetrack....

Cheers.

Mine is named in our contents insurance as a "specified portable valuable", its not insure on the track of course but it is insured for theft or fire like anything else in the house, it's also insured in transit to/from the track.

cheers
Matt

My trackie is covered for fire, theft and whilst being towed. No cover whilst it is being ridden anywhere whatsoever. My insurer (Shannons) would only offer it because my road bike is covered comprehensively with them.

The answer is in New Zealand.

Recently while at EC there was a Marshall who was from NZ . who also was a regular marshall in Auckland. We had a conversation, just about insuring your bike at the track.

He said, one of the major NZ insurer is not just insuring the bikes for track-days but also is one of the major sponsors of track-days. They have the attitude that they rather have 160 guys at the track than 160 guys on the road.... ;)

They have the numbers, they know that it's going to be costing them less in pay-outs on the track vs the road.

What a refreshingly intelligent aproach.................

we might have to all move accross the pond :kuda:

You would have to be insane to ensure a track bike. In the insurers eyes it's desgned to race and that brings up the chances that it will be in an accident, it's basically a liabily for them.
Even if you could, like you can in NZ, the premiums would be through the roof.

If you hire a bike at the track and bin it, I think you are up for 5k. For that much money a year I'd rather take my chances

That's a bit harsh  Fire & theft for me Owen..... I don't give a rats about crash damage cause I know they wont insure for that here, I had a mate park at the club just up from Eastern Creek for a presentation after a race meeting, he had his 4WD & trailer stolen + the 30K sidecar that was in side it & all spares  but they wont be able to sell it in Australia  the frame was a one of a kind carbon fiber formula monocoque & most of the parts came from Europe etc, farkin low lifes

If you've got it stored in a lockup garage you can insure for fire and theft with:
I've had trackbikes insured with Famous before - very cheap.

Oh, and apparently if you are over 90 years old and never ride your bike you can insure it with Shannons

Sorry I meant that the insurance company would have to be insane to insure you for crash damage. F&T makes perfect sense ;)

I wonder though... If you bin it on the track and it goes up in flames... Can you claim fire? :D

I've got mine with Shannons, but IC Frith (Arista) and Jardine Lloyd Thompson, do them also.

I like Matt's idea of getting it with the house insurance though, might suss that out.
