Got my bike back from the mechanic fixing a leak and now the mechanical side of it is in good condition. No need to have a rebuild so save me a lot of $$$$$.

Have strip all the fairing out and found out the bottom belly pan, the middle fairing and the top fairing is broken. Manage to source very good condition belly pan and the middle fairing so I'm happy with that. As for the top fairing I have been looking through the web for a long time and find nothing worth buying, so I ordered one to be made. Have not take out the fuel tank yet so might find sometime next week to get it out. My friend who is a panel beater will help me to fix up some minor cracks and respray all the fairings and fuel tank. I can't rush him as he have a full-time job and a family man so it will probably take him a month

Next thing will be sourcing the 4-2 exhaust system and I found the Marving have one which is very similar to the original. I will not be using the original exhaust system (Cannot find one which is in good condition) due to the fact that they are poor quality and rust out quickly thus not easy to find a good original exhaust system. I'm not going to take out the engine so just some touch up paint will do the job. I will post up some photos when I get the time.

Man that's a lot of hard work and $$$$ for a GPeeeeZ 900, could we have another $1000,000 Gp?

If you like the bike than you will do a lot of good thing to it. As for me I have always love the GPZ and would definitely like to restore it back to its glory days Got a Katana PopUp to go after the GPZ

I'm doing a spanner day on the 500 next Friday then I start stripping the 900 fairings / tank to start prep work. Mechanically mine is pretty good too thank goodness but the new colours of black with red/white stripes should look good.

Hey Wayne, I wanted to get a 500 as well but they are quite difficult to find. I've also had the fork service as well and the frame had no rust so all is good for me. Can't wait to see you start your 900. Anyway we will talk more when we meetup on the 5th of Nov at the Groove inn

I've decided to change the subject cos I think if anyone doing up their GPZ900R can post here so we all can gain experience, obtain info and learn from each other and help each other. So don't be shy and just post up your project, mods, queries etc. There's no such thing as stupid question so don't be afraid

K & N do a good twin pod air box replacement ..
I had a hell of a lot of grief with the stock one - pain in the ass to work on
Just remember to get the jet kit as well

hey Brian, that would be great. I can always go over to your place to pickup. I would like to know and to see how your project is going on, might be able to learn something from you (I'll bring beers). As for my project, so far so good and hopefully I'll be able to complete my GPZ project by end of the year

You're welcome to swing by of course, but there's nothing to see at the moment. I'm planning on moving house early next year, so I won't be doing any work on the GPz until the shift takes place. All I've really got for it so far is the front end, and that'll be the original forks / brakes from the 10.

There's not a great deal of stuff there, so I'm quite happy to bring it in on the train one day if you like - perhaps I could twist your arm for a beer after work one night.

I've been searching high and low looking for the paint code for my GPZ900R-A1. So if I'm not wrong the red colour code should be 606-Firecracker Red and the gray colour code should be 634-Pearl Gentry Gray. Since Kawasaki never did release the colour code so i think I'll be using the codes that I've found and not too mention with some help from GPZZONE UK.

Tank was taken out today and found some rust on the edges line underneath. All is good to be taken to my friend's place and next thing will be buying the paints

Still having some thoughts of whether to take out the engine for respray or just leave it in and touchup. Feeling a bit lazy.....and to be honest I've only taken out 2-stroke engine and have never taken out a 4-stroker. That was more than 25 years ago......wow getting older

Oh BTW does anyone know where can I get my hands on a GPz900R-A1 exhaust system? Cheers.

Here's some pictures even though the paint might look good but there quite a few cracks here and there and the fuel tank got some rust as well. Also will be replacing all bolts and nuts as there are rusted as well.

It’s actually pretty easy dropping the motor out by yourself. Place an old tyre under the engine, remove the top clamp, and lift the bike enough to remove the whole front end assembly ; then you can lower the bike down onto the tyre. If you want to remove the engine, I’m happy to come over and give you a hand some time.
