I think i need to sell the bike...

So i'm considering selling the bike already for a few different reasons:

- I have a car as well, as for me the car is more practical then the bike.
- I have a bad knee which cramps up a lot and i don't have the time nor the money to fix it any time soon.
- Been suffering from insomnia for many years and 6 out of 7 days i wake up after 2-3 hours sleep and i'm way to exhausted to ride safely, so the bike just sits and sits and sits in the garage.
- Family reasons
- The extra cash wouldnt go astray.

SO i've got a green 2009 Ninja 250 which has the following mods

- Carbon fibre yoshi exhaust
- Fender eliminator
- HID xenon headlights
- PUIG double bubble dark tint screen.

The bike has also:

- Was bought in Late Novemeber 2008
- under 2000kms (under 1500 i'm pretty sure) on the clock
- No scratches or bumps etc (was hit by a bus on NYE 2008/09 and everything was completely replaced, got the bike back a few months ago)
- Lady rider (paranoid as fuck, stuck to the manuals instructions)
- Hasnt been dropped
- always garaged, quite often covered as well
- chain cleaned and lubed often as well
- sell would include bike dust cover, xena lock as well as chain cleaner and lube
- Has had the 1000km service
- Includes log books, instructions manual, 2nd key, Xena lock keys x2
- Will have 12 months rego

Now my question is how should i go about selling the bike, what kind of price should i be starting with, what should be the lowest offer, what should i include in the add. I'm in no hurry to sell it if that makes any kind of a difference. And i havnt got the original parts.

Thank you in advance :)

Bikesales, tradingposts, forums, word of mouth, etc...

You'll have a set a price in order to induce buyers who are looking for new bikes but would consider buying a 2nd hand bike for a little less ($1500-2000).

Scan the classifies for similar bikes and see what prices they are asking and selling for.

If you're not in a hurry to sell, you can afford to wait for the right buyer to come along.
Since it's a new bike, there's usually less risk involved, so it's a relatively safe purchase for prospective buyers.
Only downside is the pool of learners who can afford that price bracket for their first bike are relatively small.

Don't sell it.
You may get better in a few months/years and then you will be bikeless!
Bikes are not practical in many instances but that wasn't why you bought it, was it?
Use the bike sitting there as incentive to get better so there is a reward at the end of the tunnel.
Whatever you do, I hope your health improves, for your sake and your family's.

I was in Kelen Kawasaki on the weekend and they had a second hand Ninja 250 for sale. Black with 2250km. It had a new slip on exhaust, tinted screen, rear seat cowl. The bike looked brand new. I did not ask how much but if you phone them and ask how much they are selling it for it would give you some idea of what you should set your price at.
It is sad that you feel you have to sell your bike. If you can afford to keep it then I would do that as on a quiet weekend it is always good to know that it is there if you wanted to go for a ride.

The price they are asking isn't necessarily going to be the price they get Punk. As I said to Shez in a PM, with Kawasaki dropping the price on new 250's the second hand bike prices will crash too. Why would anyone pay $7,500 for a second hand bike with a couple of thousand K's on it when they can get a brand new bike ride away for that price. It just doesn't make any sense. I'm sorry, but the slip on and fender eliminator don't add that much value to the bike and the whole market has dropped, so anyone still asking high prices like these are being a bit optomistic. Then again it is a learner's bike so you might come accross a stupid young noob who is willing to pay way too much money because they think it looks fully sick. ;) In all honesty the prices some 250's get is rediculous because of the last point so who knows, you may get lucky but I certainly wouldn't be paying anywhere near those prices. At the end of the day ask what you want for it and if you are not in a hurry then try a high price and go fishing for a noob with NFI, but with so many of these on the market, to sell it sooner I would think yours needs to have some advantage over the others to convince people that it is the better one to buy.

Stocks of new Ninja 250's are again very low so now is the best time to sell a very good second hand one. While demand is still high the value of the second hand Ninja 250s should still be high. Good luck with the sale.

Thanks Driven, Punk, King Nicholas, ZXR750 and Nelso.

As i've already said to a few of you, i have no idea what this thing is worth.

My thoughts were that i might as well sell it for as much as someone can pay (within reason) because as exactly what Nelso said, you can go and buy a brand new for $7500 ride away.

But for those people that are smart, 2000kms is nothing, and it's got about $2000 worth of mods on it, and personally i'd be happy with paying $7500+ for a bike that had the mods, low kms, no scrathces, no problems, first service, log books etc. Or is this just me??

I don't have the original pipe, i'd have to get it from the mechanics ( long story as to why i don't have it and they do), but would it pay for me to go and get it and have them swapped and sell them seperately?

It's just a waste for it to be sitting in the garage when somebody could be giving it lots of love.

honestly, i'd be happy with 7 thousand as is (rego runs out late november) and i'm after a quick sale as i'm jsut sick of looking at it and not being able to ride it comftably. But then i can hold off for somebody if they are interested if i get a deposit.

I also had a look on bikesales and would prefer to sell it without using that crap. I found myself laughing at some of the prices people wanted, so i'm a bit confused as to what i think!!
