On the whole, the fairings on my bike are in good order, except for there are 2 small pieces that have been broken off.

1 Piece is a tab under the pillion seat where it screw onto the frame (an easy fix I think), the other is at the bottom of the lower fairing on 1 side, where the previous owner tried to mount a kerb and tore off the leading edge of the fairing (about 1 inch), I dont know how I am going to repair this.

I am looking to get the fairings and tank resprayed in black (I already have a full set of custom chrome effect decals on the way).

Whats the best way of stripping the original paint and decals of the fairings and tank? Or is this a job the bodyshop would do?

What would be a reasonable price to pay to get all this sprayed up?

I think with the tab bit it will be fairly easy as you thought.
maybe just superglue would do it?

with the leaing edge of the fairing, maybe have a look around at some wreckers and see if they have a broken panelbut with the area you need in good nick. Then just do a cut and shut of the two.

The more you do in the way of prep work the cheaper the paintjob will be.
and also be aware that a Black paintjob will show up ANY defect in the painting surfaces.

Id say cough up the most you can afford and let the pro's do it.

PLASTEX hehehe great stuff repairs anything and actually works.
As for the prep work go speak to a resprayer and ask them, most will tell you what they need and how to do it. Doing such will save a few bucks.

Most bike shops sell the stuff, and alot of us here have used it to maybe someone still has the suppliers phone number.
I repaired 7 tabs, 4 cracks and 3 sections of missing fairing on my 750, on the bro's 250 i repaired 14 tabs, 1 crack that was around a month back since then on my bike 3000km and the damn stuff is holding well.

Plastex looks similar to Plastibond which is available in most hardware stores. I remember my father fixed a cracked aluminium housing that the radiator hose attaches to with this stuff. Lasted at least two years, then he sold it, so I am assuming was still ok...

the other way 2 do it is get some thin aluminium plate & bend it roughly to shpe of the leading edge of the fairing aking sure u have around 50- 60mm poking in behind the existing fairing. next u clamp it with a pair of vice grips so it dont slip everywhere. get a 1 eighth drill bit & drill say 4 holes thro the existing fairing & the aluminium plate. countersink the holes on the outer side of the fairing to suit 1 eighth countersunk pop rivets, be careful not 2 crack fairing as ur drilling, also countersink the holes a little deeper than the rivet head size so they sit a bit lower than the finished fairing height, but not to low so they still have a bit for the rivet to grip & not pull through the fairing. next get sum fibreglass & lay over the ally plate where the fairing is missing , getting it as close to the right shape as possible. on the inside lay glass over the plate right up ovr where the plate is riveted to the existing fairing as well do the outside first then the inside in stages, like any thing 2 do with painting its all about preparation, take ur time!!! let it harden, then finish shaping with body filler (bog , as it is known in the trade) bog ovr the rivets wher u countersunk them(this is why u made them sit a bit lower) & sand back & shape, leaving a little thickness (not much) so it doesn't crack, feather out the edges & send 2 the painter. it sounds like a bit of fukin round but this is what a fibreglass repairer etc. would do, i have fixed hundreds of bits of fibreglass canopies, bus & coach corners etc. like this when i was coach building......good luck, hope it helps
